Belt Parkway Commuters - BEWARE!!! — Brooklynian

Belt Parkway Commuters - BEWARE!!!

Hello Everyone!

I'm new to the forum and I wanted to see if any of you have noticed these new structures that were recently mounted to the east side of the Flatbush Avenue (Exit 11N) overpass heading in the eastbound direction of the Belt Parkway? They hang off the east side of the overpass and are positioned over two of the three lanes. Just the other day I noticed that the position of these structures changed to 2 differente lanes. They look sort of like the EZ-Pass overhanging square pad structures that you can drive through at around 15 mph without having to stop. To me they appear to me some type of traffic monitoring devices, but I wanted to know if any of you know have seen them and know what they are. I hope it's not some type of speed trap setup they are experimenting with.

Please let me know. Any information would be appreciated.

Regards,

Brooklynguy

  • Seems to be an existing speed trap in the area, albeit on Flatbush Avenue itself:

    Flatbush Avenue near Belt Parkway

Heading Southbound on Flatbush Ave, passing Hwy 2 station house, the speed limit goes from 40mph to 30mph(very small sign up high) as you go over the Belt Parkway. The speed limit then goes to 45mph. The officer will get you as you go over the hill.

Sometimes marked somtimes not. Westbound sits on shoulder in the dark. Zero tolerance. No amount of PBA cards will give these jerks who perceive themselves the elite of the NYC cops. However I walked thanks to a great Laywer whose name I suppose I cant say but his office is in the Motor Vehicle office in Coney Island (Where you pay the ticket)

  • Whenever you drive on either side of the Belt, especially on ground level, you need to watch your speedometer. Highway Patrol usually hides behind the curves, up on the grass. Around Flatbush Avenue & in between the Verrazano & the beginning/end of the Gowanus are the notorious speed traps. Flatbush Avenue heading from Kings Plaza to the Gil Hodges is notorious as well. It's easy to get caught up flooring the gas pedal on that stretch because of the elbow room opening up.

  • idlewild the hiding spots are so obviously and could be seen a mile away LOL. they are not good hiding spots.
