How could Kings RX be closed?

I needed a medication refilled today and the mail-order pharmacy said they were not shipping to NY area until further notice, and that I should check with my local pharmacy - which for 20+ years has been Kings.

I was shocked to see that they were closed this afternoon....seems to me that pharmacies, like hospitals etc...should view themselves as medically necessary and be open whenever possible to provide service to the community. And if restaurants etc..today could be open, why couldn't Kings? Even with a skeleton staff?

I so want to like Kings Pharmacy more than I do. I've had issues getting prescriptions filled there.

Maybe they had a legit reason with the storm. I hope you were able to go down the hill to the Duane Reade.

I so want to like it more than I do, too. Though I have been a customer there for more than two decades, and have seen many of the staff there for years, they never fail to act as if they've never seen me before. Rarely does anyone greet you at the pharmacy counter, and invariably, it seems, there is some problem with the fulfillment of my prescription, but they never think to call when it arises.

I hate supporting anonymous chains like Duane Reade over local businesses like Kings, but Kings' managers should get their act together and start treating it like the neighborhood business it is - and their customers worth welcoming back.

i agree with the general sentiment! Kings needs to shape up, including so that I can use my medical flex spend card there. That said, I have had multiple experiences when Duane Reade for some mysterious reason does not have some very common medication in stock (prednasone, hydrocortisone cream) and I wind up back at Kings. I am at the point where I go to wherever I happen to be closer to at the time, knowing it is basically a crap shoot and that I have 50% chance of being sent across the street!

Yes, this. I had one prescription filled there. Out of my six refills, I think Kings managed not to screw this up only twice. Sometimes the script wasn't ready. Sometimes they had to give me a different variety of the same drug. No one bothered to call me to check if the variety was OK, they just gave it to me. I gave up trying to get the medication I was actually prescribed, and the next time I had a prescription I took it to Duane Reade--no problem.

I try to go there for my non-prescription meds and health-and-beauty aids (soap, shampoo, etc.) I don't know where they're getting their stuff. Very their merchandise is not labeled for the US market--the last time I bought Dove Bodywash there it was labeled for sale in the Netherlands. I'm not sure what that's about, some kind of gray-market import?

I don't want to trash Kings, and they did all that work inside recently to create more shelf space. The clerks are all extremely polite, friendly, and they know the store--you can't say that about the typical Duane Reade employee. I just wish they could up their game a little bit in terms of prescription service and stock.

The few times that I've tried Kings, whether for prescriptions or retail, they have messed things up. Hence, I no longer shop there and go to Target instead.

I stopped going to Kings years ago. I walk all the way from prospect heights to Neergard and have few problems with them. Also stopped going to Thriftway on Washington.
