Prospect heights Apartment Hunting

Hi everyone,
I moved to PH with my boyfriend this past April, and we absolutely love the area. Unfortunately, our landlord is beyond awful. We have been bickering with her over taking care of the most basic of things, such as installing smoke detectors and making sure our toilet is functional. She rarely ever calls us back and has become beyond obnoxious. We really want to stay in the area, but are concerned our current arrangement will not last much longer. Although our lease goes until next April, she has begun to threaten us, stating she could throw us out on the grounds we walk too loudly in the apartment and disturb the neighbors below (which is beyond absurd, considering we don't even wear shoes in the apt). Although it is highly unlikely that could happen, we are still concerned over the situation and are interested in at least beginning to find out about available apartments in the area. Does anyone know of local owners/management companies that might have some listings? I'm not a huge fan of brokers due to the charge, but if anyone has any insights there I'd appreciate it as well.
