i have an unhealthy love of bread, too AW. what exactly are "these sweet little buns" and where do you get them?
-
catonese bakery.
its just like sweet bread(almost like outback bread, but not dark color but normalish like yellow brown color). but like size of a burger bun, but a bit smaller. -
sounds delicious! if you have a favorite bakery, feel free to pass along the address
-
not really
. i'm a creature of convenience. if i see a bakery and it close on my way home i stop and get some bread lol.
there are 1 bakery on every block here on 86th st. -
86th, you say? sounds like a field trip!
-
I'd like to know where you can get mexican sweet bread around here.
AND some francisco style super sour bread. <sigh>
(Shish, take me on your field trip. Yum!) -
I don't remember the exact address or even street, but when I lived in Windsor Terrace and would walk home from Park Slope I would sometimes pass a bakery that was, I believe, Mexican (I seem to remember the flag in the window)--I never went in but it would smell absolutely heavenly when it was open (I could feel myself gaining weight as I walked by). Sorry that I don't remember more, but it is past 10th street between the two neighborhoods across from a new construction (I know, it sounds like every block). It was very small/modest and more towards Park Slope than Windsor Terrace (maybe around 8th Ave?)

I was thinking the same thing, Saram. It's somewhere btw. 7th and PPW, and btw. 11th and Windsor. I can't remember the exact location right now, but you can smell it from far away.
Mami, I would think you could get that stuff on 5th Ave in the 20s -
that would be Rojas Bakery on 15th 'tween 8th & 7th. their storefront has been knocked down for new construction, but they are still baking and delivering to stores. the smell sometimes drives me insane (in a good way)!!

Ding ding ding ding ding! That's exactly where it is. I've walked past it 100 times, but couldn't remember the street -
I've gotten from Rojas - they have these spiral-y things that are like angel wings - so light and amazing. Yes yes!

love those
do they also have those things that look like buns with the colored sugary blocky stuff on the top? cause that's my weakness. when my dad would take students abroad to mexico, and take me along so I could go to elementary school in, say, merida or san luis potosi, he'd give me lunch money. it was ALWAYS spent on a sope, one of those buns, and jicama with chile. to drink: jarritos tamarindo soda. god. I love mexico.
