Smack Mellon in DUMBO — Brooklynian

Smack Mellon in DUMBO

I usually hate topics like this so I can't believe I'm posting my own!

We're in the process of booking our wedding at Smack Mellon for the end of April. I'm starting to feel a bit overwhelmed because all you book is the empty space. We need to take care of everything else. And they don't seem to have any recs. But at the same time there's no set vendor list which I like.

Does anyone have any experience making a wedding there? Or have you been to a wedding there?

We love the area and the space but right now I'm feeling like I bit off more than I can chew.

I'd love to find someone local who does letterpress invitations. It doesn't even have to be a shop. It can be someone working out of a home studio. Also a great florist?

Basically, we're trying to use as many local people possible in the process.

So far the only one we know we absolutely have to have is Baked in Red Hook.

Did you ever get a response? I think this venue is super cool, and found a person on flickr who had a wedding there, maybe you can contact her.

Don't know if you are still in the need for a local invitation maker / photog, but i have had good experiences with www.jodyheher.com - she takes incredible photos, has very classic, yet contemporary, layouts, excellent rates and she is based in park slope.
  • You might be better off hiring a local wedding planner or contacting a wedding planner. Also many of the Brooklyn catering halls have wedding expos where there photographers, videographers, etc all show their goods. Florists are another good source of info when it comes to weddings. There was a wonderful florist on Atlantic (between Henry and Hicks on the opposite side of LICH). I used Midtown Florist for my wedding (was very happy) but they now have new owners so I am not sure how much they have changed.

    Good luck and congratulations.
