awesome!
and I really do like weather up -- I wish they would expand their cocktail list, or at least have the ability to make more cocktails (got turned down on margaritas last night, which, frankly, would be awesome coming from a great mixologist) but otherwise I have no problems with the place. then again, I'm a stickler for learning a barkeeps name, telling my friends, promptly forgetting it and then demanding that my friends remind me so I can call out "hey there so-and-so! darlin', I need another drink!" works every time. -

AMEN to that!
I don't think I'm setting foot in there to give it another chance for another year. If it even lasts that long.
Place sucks! -
@PPG and fred: what are your problems with the place? I'm still in love. but I restrict my use to weeknights.

This place is fine. I dont know what kind of expectations some of you seem to have from a bar. A bar people. Just a bar...

Subject: Weather Up
Is Weather Up a members only type place? There is no sign, and the door is locked with people obviously inside? What's that about? -

What time? -
Dunno. Maybe six or seven...
-
well, it doesn't open til 7, so that's probably the issue.

Wen there Saturday night- had a great time. Great cocktail (they modified our gin fizz to a vodka fizz which was great), and the bartender even bought a round for my friend and I as it was her birthday.
Talked to the owner/manager-type lady. She was cool- said when the weather gets nice, the back patio will be open. Very nice addition. -

i haven't been there but i can understand having high expectations for a $14 cocktail. it should be pretty much impeccable. if i want a drink that is just "fine" i can go to my local. -

I had an amazing La rosita last night, too bad the Bar tender made it with Hornitos anejo, i hate the smell of any of the Sauza family products, love my Don Julio anejo, so even though it really tasted like shit due to the Sauza factor i did not want to be an asshole ,so i downed it as fast i could and got myself a Moscow mule to wash away the Sauza after taste... -
so weather up is featured in New York mag this week in the two-page spread/column The Local called "Come Here Often?" pp. 56-57..it's the this is new york issue 1968-2008...
reading it now...maybe that's why it was locked up a few weeks back w/ people inside? the deck on the article says "sat nite 9:42 pm" but looking at the tiny group i find that difficult to believe. -

It was locked up those few nights because they had to keep their occupancy level, and apparently when you first open up, you really have to watch that. Katherine (owner) didn't want to draw too much attention for fear of going over, and closed the doors.

Everything's all good now, as you can see from the mag. It's online:
