Why would the police even bother with something like that if the scrap took all of half a minute, wasn't loud...and was well over by the time they showed up?! All those kids were doind was hanging on the front stoop of the building before all that had happened.

Why the pad down? Why throw the gym bag across the street and leave it there? None of the kids walked across to get it after the brawl or when the police showed up and told them to scram!

Definitely had the look of a drug thing going on. Say what ya will!
Not every group of kids are dealing drugs, maybe they were making too much noise and the cops were called, maybe the bag they threw was one they found on the street, maybe the lady who came out accused them of stealing something so they patted them down and let them go.

Please and I know you posted this to be helpful and I thank you but again not all groups of kids are dealing drugs.
  • And those little baggies you see all over the street there are obviously for storing unused buttons. How dare you insinuate that drug deals occur on that innocent street corner?

The point I was making was not every group on that corner is dealing drugs so the sarcasm was not necessary

That being said, I personally think that muggings and general street harassment are increasing. i have had at least four friends mugged or attacked in the last month in the areas of pro hts/clinton hill/ft. greene. And no, my friends are not suckers - they've also lived here their whole lives, and most without incident (every recent situation involved a group of boys between about the ages of 12 and 15).

I guess what I'm trying to say is that yes, I think there has been an upsurge of crime lately (i'd say the last 6 months), but i think it's a city-wide, or at least brooklyn-wide problem. as far as your question mrjones, i would try to keep in mind that things often seem scarier when read about on a message board. (ever try googling an ailment?) - I think you'd be happy on that block. most people i know are.

    just my 2cents.
thanks jarvis. I think I would be too.

I can relate to the "I guess what I'm trying to say is that yes, I think there has been an upsurge of crime lately (i'd say the last 6 months), but i think it's a city-wide" part, but must add that some of my friends -- males and females living in New York City for decades if not life -- have been attacked (mugged and beaten) in Queens, Manhattan, and Brooklyn within the last 12 months.
  • mrjones wrote: is there an archive somewhere you know of? Where is the most up to date Compstat, and is it visualized anywhere? Does precinct 77 give out a list of incidents that you know of? thanks again.
I'm keeping a log of incidents in the 77th and nearby precincts at http://savebrooklynnow.blogspot.com/. It's mostly NYPD info released to the press, which tends to be homicides, missing persons and wanted posters.
