SIDEWALK VOLTAGE WARNING FOR DOGS & OWNERS:
Not only will ice melt salts corrode electrical cables in manholes,
causing explosions (yesterday in Park Slope) there's a high possibility
that electrical current will jump into anything metal including the
manhole cover and even nearby iron fences... If your dog is afraid of
certain areas it may be with reason....Pay attention to your dog's behavior or attempts to avoid an area!!!

Ice melting salts and a wintery mix on
sidewalks may create dangerous conditions for you and your pet to
receive shocks from stray sidewalk
voltage. Please avoid areas where you see Con Ed making repairs. Stray
voltage can travel across any wet sidewalk. Try to steer your
pet away from sidewalk scaffolding, lamp posts, manholes and other
electrical covers embedded in the sidewalk or roads.  Also...Keep your pets away from poles that have a circle of melted snow around them...it may indicate stray voltage!  If you or your pet
receive a shock, please report it immediately to 911.
