Con Ed reimbursement check scam

I made the mistake of answering a door buzz thinking it was the USPS with a package. Instead, it was a lady saying something about a meter upgrade and Con Ed refund. She was trying to make it sound like she was working with Con Ed going door to door letting people know this is their last chance to get a refund. She only identified herself as an ESCO provider when I began to try and read her name tag. I really doubt a random ESCO is going to show up and give out free money so I sent her on way. Be alert and please verify who is buzzing you before rushing to the door.
