Seeking volunteer photographers
Behind the Book is a non-profit organization that inspires NYC public school students to love reading. We bring accomplished authors into K-12 classrooms in high-need communities, where they lead workshops to guide students in creating their own writing and art projects. Our rich, innovative programs, which are part of the class curricula and meet Common Core Learning Standards, have a successful record of nurturing engaged, motivated readers and writers in schools throughout the city.
We're looking for volunteers to photograph classroom sessions this Friday, October 23rd & next Tuesday, October 27th, both from 10:00 -11:30 AM.
Celebrated author Renee Watson, with her book A Place Where Hurricanes Happen, will work with a third grade class at CS 21 in Bedford-Stuyvesant, 180 Chauncey St., between Malcolm X Blvd. and Patchen Ave. (corner of Patchen). The A/C to Utica Ave is close by, or you can take the B46 bus up Malcolm X Blvd. to Bainbridge St. (one block north of Chauncey). If you drive, parking is pretty easy around there.
All your shots will be credited. They might appear on Facebook, Twitter, our blog, in promotional or fundraising material, and/or--very exciting!--in the professionally published books created by students for their classroom projects.
Please contact [email protected] if you'd like to provide your valued skills to Behind the Book on these or other dates, or to join our volunteer team to work with students as a writing or research coach or art assistant.
Thanks so much!
