Back to School, back to dashing around, planning, scheduling. How do you keep your center? How do you keep peace inside? Here are some helpful yoga tips:
1) Relaxing Breath: Calm the Nervous System. Breathe in and out thru your nose. Breathe in for 4, out for 6. Work up to in for 4, out for 8. Then in for 6, out for 12. By letting your exhale be longer than your inhale you set up an automatic relaxing response in your sympathetic nervous system.
2) Meditation: Find a chair or comfortable seat on the floor. Rest your non-dominant hand in your dominant hand on your lap. Rest your gaze softly on a spot on the floor roughly 2 feet in front of you. Breathe in and out through your nose. Count to 10. If (when!) your mind wanders, start counting again at 1. Do not worry about your thoughts, just come back to the practice when you notice you have strayed. If possible, choose the same time everyday to do a meditation practice. But, anytime is a good time! The first day start with one minute. The second day do two minutes. The third day do 3 minutes and so forth.
