PROGRAM EA8TB-MDate: Tuesday, November 14th, 2017
About the program: Eighth-graders read "Maritcha: A Nineteenth-Century American Girl" by Tonya Bolden, which immersed them in late-1800’s New York City history, and inspired them to consider becoming activist and engaged in their own communities. Chaperones will accompany the class on a field trip to Weeksville Heritage Center, the Brooklyn historic site of one of America's first free black communities in the 19th century, to help them prepare to write manifestos stating their personal, political, and artistic beliefs as they relate to activism and community engagement.
To join our team and receive announcements of new volunteer opportunities in Brooklyn as they're scheduled, please complete our brief questionnaire.
