Poor kitty out in the cold!

There's a black and white older cat in this empty lot on Bergen, between 5th ave and Flatbush. Between the book shop and the sandwich place. The kitty looks cold, but wasn't feral or scared. There was a metal fence between me and the cat and he/she didn't even listen to me when I tried to call it over. It just stayed in a little huddled ball by all the trash cans behind the fence.

I don't know what to do??? I think it's a stray and I've seen it before in that vacant lot, but now I'm worried because it's so cold and it will only get colder out there. Unfortunately, I'm allergic to cats even though I LOVE them, so I can't take it home.

Do you think I should call someone about it? Or will the kitty be OK and I'm overreacting?

I think I know the lot you're talking about. There are a number of cats living there, and they seem to be cared for. I always see food out for them.

Does anyone have any more information about this group of cats (who feeds them, have they been fixed, etc)?

There are a lot of black&white cats living on washington ave near empire, between the firehouse and the botanical gardens. ive seen four together.. they are full grown but I could never get them to come close enough to the fence to rescue them. they are probably living a good life, so I don't really want to call animal rescue/control

i've met and petted a couple of those cats before, and they were friendly but not overly needy, in a way that made me think that someone is taking care of them (they were fine with people but not working me over to take them home). i hope that is the case.

granted, this was in the summer, so the living was easy, but i'm thinking they are probably more or less okay for food if they've stuck around that spot for so long.

In the area I lived before, I was one of those that feed the stray kitties all the time, but that was a warmer climate. The cat looked ok, not starved. I'm only worried about the incoming cold weather, it definitely looked like a stray. I wonder if there are resources, people out there that can help them when the temperatures drop....
