park locally or at airport? — Brooklynian

park locally or at airport?

I'm flying out to Newark tomorrow and may have to extend my trip until next week or even longer (family emergency).

I have a car. Is it cheaper for me to park it at a local garage for however long I'm gone or parking it at a lot near Newark (I've heard sky park is reasonable).

A lot of people park in Harrison, NJ. Way cheaper ($10 a day) and safer than the lots around EWR, which aren't necessarily watched or safe. There's a PATH stop there that you take to Penn Station to switch to the train to the Airport. You take the Holland Tunnel and bob and weave through Jersey City to get there.

If at all possible - have a neighbor you trust move the car for you when you are gone and take a cab to the airport. Otherwise I would not park at the airport long term parking - the 3 people I know who has parked there for over a week had some type of damage done to their car.
  • I park at Vista Parking when going to Newark. It's off site (off Frontage Road), but they have tons of vans that shuttle you to the airport quickly. They're cheap, and if you tell them you have AAA, they take 10% off (and...ahem...they don't ask for your number or to see the card)

  • I used to park at the airport. But now I get a friend to move my car and take a cab. It's cheaper if you go away for any time over one week.
