H.A.M.: Sing Like a DIVA and Win a Canned HAM!
Sing Like a DIVA and Win a Canned HAM!
Wednesday February 20 9:30-ish to 12:30 there and abouts
HUMANS AGAINST MUSIC
This month Humans Against Music will be hosted by the divas of Opera On Tap while Bill C. will be studying for the Superhero Aptitude Test (SAP). By nature karaoke and opera are usually bitter enemies, but to celebrate leap year they come together like Julie Taymor directing "Aliens 5" to host the SONGS OF LOVE.
WHAT IN THE SAM HILL IS OPERA ON TAP?
As a not-for-profit company, Opera On Tap (OOT for you cultural smarties) promotes opera as a viable, living and progressive art form deserving a place on the American cultural landscape. In 2005 Annie, Jessica, and Carla created Opera On Tap as a performance outlet for their friends. They wanted an opera "gig" in the vein of the New York rock or jazz gig. As the Bloomberg smoking ban hoverred over New York to the tune of Carl Orf's "O Fortuna", something unexpected happenned. Three professional opera singers stepped out for a drink at Freddy's Bar. [play "Sur le Dome Pais" track here] The backroom provided them with opportunities and ideas. OOT's buttoned-down, blue-jean sportin' styled mission extends their muscial outreach to more venues... including lo-fi karaoke night. OOT now brings more opera to the masses than Freddy Mercury! Sing low 'n' win big! You don't have to be a diva to win a HAM, but could it hurt?

Subject: Who Hates Ham?
So far the only canned ham haters are macro-vegans. We do have DVD prizes, but that's strictly vegetarian. Check back with us on March 20 when we celebrate something Irish, hosted by some Irish person. -
Subject: Diva Las Vegas!
Karaoke and opera are friends — let's arrange for another playdate soon! HAM wants to thank our guest hostesseseses, Diva Annie and Diva Jessica for a fabulously good time. Flags were flown and the competition was stiff. My favorite trash talk sound byte of the evening was "That's the Sukiyaki song, b***h!". The correct pronunciations are sski-yaki and beee-ach.
HAM shouts out our very vocal vunderkinds. To Skippy Oshea our hirsute hero of song. You've proven that guys can strip to Viva Las Vegas too. Enjoy the ham. To That Engaged Couple, enjoy your slightly used "I Now Pronounce You CHUCK & Larry" DVD. Your version of You Don't Bring Me Flowers got us all emotional. I know I cried. Diva Carla for that incredible Tina Turner impersonation, your Private Dancer went public. Enjoy the condiments. Special shout out to our visiting Swiss Ham, Peter (that's Swiss for Peter) for leading us tutonically through the Big Bohemian Finale. But there's so many more people to thank: Mr. Roger, Bartender Katie, Kroaky Song, Brown Eyed Girl Guy, Don't Cry Outloud Man, Mama Spell, The Opera On Tap Orchetra Singers, That Sino Girl, 20-sided Ranger Chick, Multi-racial Couple... the list can go on.
As the evening drew to a close our vocal Valkyries took a bow and rose into heaven, and they left a good tip. But fear not, you can find them at OPERAONTAP.COM. Sign up for their mailer list. Meahwhile on HAM island, we await the next theme: "Something Irish TK".
