Apparently something to do with a "customer injury"... This just came in by email:

A clerk at Natural Land (next to the 7 th Ave Q station) told me he heard there was a "jumper." Gothamist confirms somebody was struck by a train at the 7th Ave station.

They kept telling us different things. But you never know what the real reasons are, it was just as long as I have ever been stuck. Thanks.
ETA: cross posted. That is so sad. -

what the heck?!?!?! 3 people got hit by trains yesterday?!? for pete's sake either step back from the platform edge or please please please get some therapy. -
Not for nothing- yesterday I switched from the 6 to the 4 at Brooklyn Bridge. That 4 train came flying into the station at break neck speed. I was not as far from the edge as I should have been, but not close enough to get hurt. Scared the crap outta me. That corner is so tight and that train is so fast.
After I got my wits, I remebered that in the same spot (downtown 4 at BK bridge) not too long ago there was a guy who had an attack of some sort (asthma?) and fell onto the tracks. Train came around so fast there wasn't enough time for his rescuers to save him. -
FWIW, I remember reading something not too long ago over on the Hassidic Crown Heights board about a couple of young Hassids that had committed suicide by jumping in front of trains. There were a lot of calls for people in the community to step up and lend a helping hand to single young men who were far from home and lonely.

Lunar eclipse? I'm not being facetious.

I can't tell you how many thousands of people I've observed over the years standing very close to the platform edge, necks craning even as a train approaches the station. I used to do this myself, but I value my safety these days over the desire to confirm up until the last possible second that the large moving object with two headlights rapidly approaching the station is, indeed, a train. -
One of the first lessons parents teach their kids in the City is not to stand on the edge of the platform, especially if the train is coming. Never understood why people insist on standing on the edge. Guess it's the same people who share unsterilized needles.
