  • last night was so much fun. We were walking around watching everyone watch the eclipse. All the guys that hang out on my corner were like "look did you see it?!?!"
everyone was talking to each other on the street.
Funny what a little lack of moonlight can do.
    :P
  • honestly, it wasn't that cool.
  • i saw it for a little while -- too cold to keep hanging out the window, but awesome.
  • well no it wasn't *that* cool
mostly because it didn't even turn red.
What was cool was that people were all out chit chatting about it.
I am also spoiled because I got to see the one in August in the desert at Burning Man.
    *That* was really cool.

  • I (heart) the toasted marshmallow eclipse.
Anybody know which stars those were nearby?
  • I know that one was Saturn and I think the other was Venus
When i was little my dad used to drag my sister and i out of bed whenever there was a "sky occurrence"

    2am some winter night 1979
dad: come on girls get *up*!!! This will be the last time you will see Mercury cross over Venus in you lifetime!!!

    4:45am some summer night 1982
dad: come on girls get *up*!!! This is the closest Jupiter will be to the Earth in your lifetime!!

I had a very long strange childhood

  • i kept stepping outside for a few minutes until i got too cold, wetn back inside to warm up, back outside for a few minutes, etc.

i love lunar eclipses -- "eyeball astronomy", as it were. so much prettier than solar ones, that's for sure.

and to answer your question, pitu, i'm pretty sure those two objects flanking the moon were Regulus and Saturn
  • HAHA, moufa, i thought my mom was the only one who did that! she used to drag from my bed and throw me outside all the time!

"get up, let's go look at jupiter!"
"get up, you've got to see the moon!"
"get up, it's the northern lights!"

i used to mumble and grumble, but it's left me with some lovely memories :D

    shishkab
you are totally right about it being Regulus

^ me, too, but it was my dad. he did at least bring out the foam sleeping bag pads for us to lie on when it was the perseid showers. i have these strange and lovely memories of drifting in and out of sleep, covered in dew, and seeing shooting stars in between dreams.

when the northern lights were showing over lake michigan a couple years ago, i totally called my friends and woke them up.
  • oh, and the notion that a total eclipse isn't cool is ABSURD. an eclipse is the definition of awesome.
  • solar eclipses are cool
