yea, that used to happen to us too. -
I thought that you (well, the building) could get fined for not recycling? I'm pretty sure that we were fined for not having the recycling properly sorted once...
-
I do, despite my flatmates' and landlord's best efforts to thwart me.

That is a legit incentive for coop and condo owners, but doesn't have much impact on renters. -
we sort, and the building staff seems to put recycling into clear (rather than black) bags, but it all gets mashed into the same (private, not DSS) truck.
so who knows? -
Our building tries pretty hard to recycle, but we have some older folks who either don't get it or don't care. It's a big pain for our super, because we have gotten fined for it before.
-
our building gets tickets at the time - the landlord, that is! but - since i don't actually open such mail - i'm not sure if the tickets are for not recycling or just leaving the trash outside the building 24/7...

EVERYONE recycles?!?! C'mon, I know there are people out there who dont for whatever reasons... tell us!

We definitely recycle, and our super is pretty good about getting everything out front in the appropriate bags.
Does anyone compost? I've had one (ill-fated) try at vermicomposting, but I'm gearing up to give it another go... -
my building gets fined a lot, too. it sucks - the dept of sanitation car follows the garbage people who are always, seemingly, picking up garbage upwind. therefore, anything that falls out of a bag or was dropped on the street moments earlier that ends up in front of our building we get fined for. also, and this doesn't make sense at all to me, but if you put bottles in a plastic bag -- like a grocery bag -- and dump the entire bag (including the bag) into the bin, that's fineable. you need to then dump the bottles into the bin without the bag and throw the bag in the trash. does that make sense to ANYONE?

We compost at the community garden on St Marks (btwn Vandy and Underhill) during the warm months. In the winter, I'm too lazy. I think non-members can also bring compost to the garden, if you're interested. (Or you could join

Given that sanitation will ticket pretty quickly, I doubt you'll find anyone who says that they do not recycle at all. Even the elderly folks on my block separate out their paper and plastic on a regular. -
