Washer-Dryer

So if you had to get a washer/dyer into an apartment, but you couldn't vent gas and steam outside
don't do it. you'll get busted. -
According to my friendly neighborhood building inspector and my coop board, there are European companies like Bosch and Miele that make electric "condensation" dryers that don't need to vent to the outside. These dryers don't make carbon monoxide fumes, since the dryer doesn't run on gas, and not a lot of steam…
However, Bosch is kind of expensive, and both the Bosch and Miele are about an inch too big for the place I want to put them. Does anyone have any experience with these condensation dryers or know of any other brands? -
I have a lot of experience with them... LG makes a great combo and a stand alone dryer. Miele and Bosch are comparable; Miele is more expensive and not really worth the extra $. We have an Equator model right now (combo) that I don't recommend unless you are handy - it needs frequent repair, and the service people for it are impossible. We have done all the repairs ourselves - when it dies for good, we'll probably get a Bosch.
I don't have any experience with Haier models, but I hear that they perform well.
They are expensive, yes, but if you're paying to do laundry anyway, just do the math to see how long it takes to pay for itself (don't forget the opportunity cost of sitting at the laundromat!)
www.compactappliance.com has a pretty good selection. -
I second the LG suggestion. We have the small all-in-one and it has made life much easier. It's hooked up where a mini-dishwasher used to be (my landlord hooked it up). It's not perfect; it takes 4 hours to complete a cycle, it's not super-quiet, small loads are a must, things come out wrinkled (button-downs/cotton pants...take 'em out prior to drying!). However, I still love it.
