Building on Underhill...

Between Atlantic and Pacific, next to the storage building. 4/5 story. A month ago there were tenants, but for past several weeks, crews have been in and out gutting the whole thing. I've also noticed a younger Hasidic man who seems to be overseeing stuff in the morning. I'm assuming this is a renovation (the place was pretty run down), but to what? I'm curious. I live around the corner and should stop on my own to ask but I'm always chasing the rush hour train. Anyone know?

  • more likely than not, he's rehabbing the building, and renting it out for market rents...depending on what that new bldg on washington between fulton and atlantic is renting for, this could be in that range.

    my guess: 1 br's for 2000-2500, 2brs for up to 3000, etc..

i wonder how nice it's going to be.
  • A ha! thanks for the link. But...does this mean it's illegal? They're out there each morning pretty consistently.
  • i've seen plenty of dumpsters out front and evidence of them hauling out the insides, ie kitchens, cabinets, bathrooms, junk, etc. it's probably gutted and the guy is gonna put in new kitchens, floors, make it a nice 15+ unit rental and reap the benefits of all the condo sponsors w ho put up viable residences in the immediate neighborhood...

illegal? perhaps, but if he doesn't get caught, he's going to continue. if you have an issue, call 311. if not, let it be.
  • i walk by this place every morning
i noticed official postings for the work in the past week or two but havent looked close enough to see what it says...
i notice as of yesterday everything is boarded up as they removed all the glass .. lots of work imo needs to be done on the interior AND the exterior to make this place appealing enough to charge rents over 2000
    guess we will see
