New Trees in the neighborhood

any corollary between the new trees and the newly-gone benches?
could be a working of the meier sponsor. i belong to eastern athletic and the sponsors paid to have the basketball court removed so it can be the new entrance to the gym for condo owners.
and the pool is going to be removed so it will be remade as a sundeck.
no worries, current members. you get to enjoy the fruits also!! -
I think someone is trying to make the neighborhood look a little nicer, I wonder when they will have a model open? The park on Plaza Street is a mess, hopefully they will spend some time and money to clean that up..

I think its part of a larger NYC beautification plan. New trees were pitted on New York Avenue in CH this morning as well. The truck they came off had over 25 trees on it so I'm sure we'll be seeing others around as well.

One of my neighbors on Prospect Place has been requesting trees. Apparently, it's not hard to do.

I'm an ex-member of EA who was thinking of going back, but . . . jeez
And STREET TREES - the million tree initiative of the city should make it pretty easy to get one. Apply now...

How to get a tree from the city was also discussed in this thread a few years ago.

BBG's GreenBridge has a windowbox sale too, related to the greenest block contest
For $20, you get a planter, dirt, plants (sun, shade, salad, or herbs)
Deadline to order is April 25, pickup is May 17 at the garden
More info: 718 623-7209
I don't see an online order form, but

I know some prime Slope blocks got trees in the last week or so as well.

A nice new one just went up on the north side of St Johns just west of New York, so I think it is an everywhere thing. It looks like a really professional job.

Ex-member here as well, went back not too long ago to re-sign and then when I saw that the beautiful view from the pool out to GAP would be obstructed....well, I was very upset and didn't re-sign that day.
I (foolishly) thought that they would have their own gym and honestly they should because really, they'll come in there like they own the place. I just know it. -
Booo, thought this was a drug thread.

I saw four of them at/near the corner of Lincoln and Underhill this morning...
In a couple years they'll make for good cover during the next gunfight on that block. -
i think the sponsors putting money into eastern athletic could be a good thing for some ppl. i don't swim, but i use the bball court, but overall, i would love to have a sundeck for the summer.
who knows, i could be sunbathing next to beyonce/oprah....lol... -

Oh no! I was about to join for the swimming pool! Why would they get rid of the basketball court and the swimming pool, in exchange for a non-activity like sunbathing?
I agree with an earlier comment. The next door neighbors will probably treat the gym like an extension of their private space, especially if there's a sun deck. And presumably existing members would have to continue to pay the high-ish monthly fees what with all the construction going on? -
Subject: Trees/mini-fences
The parks dept plants trees every spring and fall, which are the best time to plant them. I requested one for my house and two years later it was planted. Bloomberg is trying to plant 1 million new trees so hopefully that will cut down on the lead time.
Does anyone know if the metal mini-fences that sometime arrive with the trees are also free and provided by the city upon request (or a couple years later). Last fall a bunch of trees, including mine, were planted and all of the trees on the opposite side of the street got those metal fences and none of the plantings on my side got them? Kind of random... -
Those fences were free -- but the city is supposedly out of them right now. Our building is on a waiting list...
-
Are you automatically on a waiting list if your tree was planted without one or do I have to get on a specific Want Fence list? Thanks!
-
You have to sign up...I'm not sure how (our Board's Scretary handled it)...maybe call 311 and ask...
-
Nope, no list. The city uses different contractors to plant the trees. Some install the fences and some don't. Totally random.
All the city will do if you don't get a fence is send you a list of contractors that install fences.
