Yes, we've had green electric for a few years now. It's just a little more expensive than regular. Our building doesn't have gas, but if it did I would switch over to green there as well. Every little bit helps.
  • We switched to green about 9 months ago. It is a bit more expensive, maybe avg of 10$/month. It was very confusing at first as to the bill cycle. For about 4 months we got bills from ConEd and the green company (IDT, ITD - something like that). You do still have to pay ConEd for the delivery fees etc, but i think it's a great program. Last spring there were people on our block going door to door getting people to switch.
  • We did too, and at first they couldnt do paperless billin which irked me (the green program cant do paperless? CMON!). They're all caught up now though.
  • Con Ed has an ESCO of their own, Con Ed Solutions, that does green energy. I buy wind powered electricity from them. Damned if I really know what the cost difference is anymore. But they will give you an estimate if you ask for one (and probably even if you don't.)
  • I switched to ConEd Solutions (green) for electricity at my last apartment for a couple of years. While we never took a hardcore look at comparing costs, just eyeballing it our bills actually seemed close to the same as conventional energy (although the way they break it down for billing becomes more confusing)
  • Subject: cow poo solution

We also use ConEd Solutions. There is only a small difference in cost. I don't think there is a greener solution for natural gas, but one day you may be able to heat your home or cook your food from cow poo:

Now that is something to look forward to!
