Cat colds — Brooklynian

Cat colds

Both my little guys seem to have come down with something. One has a runny nose the other has watery eyes. Did a bit of research and it seems like they have colds. Most of the stuff I read seemed to indicate that they pretty much just have to run their course and neither one of them seems miserable. They are still eating and playing and really the only difference in their normal behavior is the sneezing and tears.

Do any of you guys have any home cold remedies? Or is the only choice to take them to the vet? I'm out of my league here as I don't recall my last cat every getting sick at all.

  • Poor kitties.

I'm no expert, but if they eating and running around playing with the same energy level, I'd let it go and see if it just goes away. If you start seeing changes for the worse, then you can always take them in - if only to ease your mind
  • For runny nose and eyes without other symptoms, I've had good results with the amino acid L-Lysine, which comes in a powder or in capsules of powder (can be purchased at health food stores like Back to the Land). Mix 500 mg into wet cat food every day. If the symptoms don't clear up after about two weeks, a vet visit is a good idea.
