Tool rental?

Would anyone happen to know if any of the area hardware stores RENT tools? I don't see myself owning tons of power tools but I do need a drill for a home improvement. Thank you!

Home Depot definitely rents tools. But I would recommend that you purchase a drill for yourself. They are not very expensive and Black and Decker or DeWalt makes a really good one for small home improvement jobs that can run between $65-$100.
  • i second everything stacey said. renting from Home Depot is easy, but you should purchase a power drill for yourself -- they reeeeeally come in handy, and they are not that expensive. good luck!

Pintchik on Flatbush @ Bergen St. (b/t 5th & 6th) rents some tools. They are an ACE Hardware store. I know they rent floor sanders, not sure of smaller stuff.
But, I have to agree with the other postings. My best purchase most recently was a $180 14.4 volt DeWalt drill/screw gun, it will last a long time. You can probably get away with a 9 or 12 volt gun. 18 volts are for contractors.
    And there's always craigslist.
  • Pintchik definitely rents tools, but I'm with the other poster - I'm not sure how small they go. If you change your mind and want to buy a drill/multi-tool Ryobi also makes a good one. They make an interchangeable base with all sorts of attachments that make one unit into about 15 other tools. Pretty handy. Certainly worth the cost over time.
  • If you ever buy any piece of furniture from Ikea (or similar) again, you won't believe ho much faster it is to put together when you have a drill with a set of screwdriver bits. Putting up shelves, curtain rods, blinds, whatever. It just pays to have a drill. They're not that expensive. Cordless is more convenient, but you get more power for your buck with a drill with a cord (and it can't run out of batteries).

Also, if you're going to be drilling into concrete, you should really get an impact driver rather than a drill.
