  • there's a couple of hilarious posts on Gowanus Lounge about the party...
a certain borough president's wife hoarding the murakami swag, and Gentrify THIS written on someone's bottom and submitted to the Bklyn Mus crowd-curated photo show :D

For all we know, BMA may have seen studies suggesting that a stadium will lead to more visitors at the museum! LOL Their interests do not have to align with yours.
Yah, okeee, so let's get off their backs and give them some kudos for not being total, ill advised, insensitive, over the top suck ass, trolls. ( so maybe I've got some displaced aggression issues today-sorry-p.m.s but seriously)...
I can appreciate why some folks go straight to the "Either you're with us or against us" mode, but in this case I think its a bit harsh on the museum.
  • sadly, the LV boutique sucked. my vintage LV bag was way hotter.

My mode is not "either you're with us or against us" (that's George Dubya mode! :D ). I have don't have an issue with the museum taking donations from the likes of Ratner. What I have said to the umteenth degree is that a gala HONORING him, ESPECIALLY now,(sorry for the caps mods but...)given what is going on around here, shows poor judgement and distaste in the extreme. And hey Guvna, if you don't agree, that's ok cause our opinions don't have to align. :P

"Mr. Ratner, we just wanted to show you some appreciation for your support over the years, and highlight all of the projects that have been made possible through your very generous donations." If that is the focus of the gala, and he has been one of the larger donors, then I would cut them some slack. Thats all I'm saying. Do they normally honor major donors? Is he a major donor? I dont know, but if he is, and they do, then I would cut them some slack. But you're right - thats just me :D

yeah, I heard she got 8 of them. bitch.

what I want to know is this: where are the lifesize posters of the sculpture of anime-man coming??? I need one for my office.
  • They were placemats, not bags. Naomi Campbell got 6 when she went to the same party in LA. Now, SHE's a bitch.

    placemats? lame.

fyi, the dj set was awful. music was okay but he was NOT playing the crowd (totally didn't realize he got the most excitement when playing carib music and kept switching to new/old hip hop at the wrong volume). there were some massive technical issues which weren't his fault, but this guy clearly does not comprehend the brooklyn crowd. he could not get the crowd jumping for more than 30 seconds. took off halfway through his set in annoyance.

from the quotes i'm seeing online, our first lady is a real piece of work. tacky and rude. but i admit that's not the museum's fault.

So, hold on a sec. Ala, dear- you were there?!?! Spill the rest of those beans!
I went out for a walk to see it, hoping to get close to the window so I could make the guests uncomfortable by standing there face pressed and drool as they ate. Alas, the protesters presence had the cops create quite the barrier. My "give ME your money" face could not be seen from that far away.

no no, this was on saturday - dj muro - weren't you hyping him? he seemed like a good hip hop dj but not a good "make people dance" dj.
  • OOHHHHHH- ha! Did I not see the thread transition? My bad.

So- he was bad, huh? I'm really surprised, I have a couple of mixes of his and they're pretty good. Wow- Roomie will be shocked to hear this as well....
But his bag is old school- so I'm sure if he played some carrib stuff it was because he was trying to play to the crowd. I'm sorry though, it seems like that's all the First Saturday crowd wants is Carribean music, and that should be reserved for the Labor Day First Saturday. How many times can we "follow da leeeder leeeder leeeder!"

hehe. people just wanted to dance. the music was decent, but the technical problems were awful - the acoustics in there suck. plus it wasn't dance music so people just couldn't get into it. at 10 p.m. when everyone's been looking at art and drinking and are promised a "dance party" it's a little annoying when the volume/sound/music choice are all failing.

I think this thread kinda became a hive-experience for anyone who was there friday or saturday night, in addition to ranting about thursday night.
  • Subject: Murakami

Me and Papi were there this past Friday for the members opening of the Murakami show. Free wine and beer and lots of very cool art. And yes there's this life size anime figure with a lasso of sperm and across from it is a female with a tornado of breast milk surrounding her. Like porno action figures. I loved the whole exhibit. The music was lame and kinda odd mix of techno and 80's stuff but all cut up so each song was less than a minute. Plenty of people drunk dancing really badly :P and tacky LVuton bags for sale.

    :D
    Has anybody actually seen this?
'cause it's totally nuts and I find it hard to believe
  • apparently dj muro also showed up at 10:15 with only 45 min left and didn't really play his hip hop . more funk than anything else.
