Freddy's V OC's: Dirty Filthy Fun
Subject: Freddy's V OC's: Dirty Filthy Fun
Hello athletes and athletic supporters. This Sunday marks the start of a regular softball grudge match between two local bars: Freddy's and O'Connor's. Patrons please report to your respective bars to register. And judging from these photos (below) some sit-ups before hand couldn't hurt. Currently the trophy, the large blue bra, hangs at Freddy's.
Freddy's Team 2007
Report to team captain Pat "Skippy" Oshea.

O'Connor's Team 2007:
Report to team captain Kevin (Irish name here).
When? Sunday April 27, 2008, vaguely around 4:00 PM.
Where? The Prospect Park sofball field.
Why? To take home the blue bra.
- No ringers. You must drink at either bar to play.
- If you drink at both bars, you must pick one for the season.
- Winning team keeps the ginormous blue bra.
- Losing team must buy pizza and rounds of beer at alleged winning bar.
[Edited for date correction: Sunday, April 27]

I'm confused. April 17 has already come, and like O'c's chances for victory, gone.

Oooops, I forgot to adjust my Mayan calendar watch to now. You are correct, the game has not yet happened yet. It is this Sunday, April 27.
So is there some kind of practice thingy before that day? I bought some personal equipment I'd like to try out. -
Great to see the Big Red Faced Machine of F(red)dy's wearing their 2005 throwback jerseys. And for a good cause. Hopefully Rat(ner), that blighter, will not just build us a new stadium but get us some new uniforms. Those uniforms look blighted.

Subject: Freddy's Fatal Flaw
If you look closely at the Freddy's uniforms they read "2005". Legend speaks that this idea was hatched over a few beers.
Freddy's uniforms have become the subject of O'Connor's pre-game trash talk. Captain Kevin Kash demonstrates with a mocking tug to his togs (2007).
Some of Freddy's teammates have evaded this untimely flaw by making lewd hand gestures (2007).
Captain Pat Oshea acknowledged this hairy situation with a mocking flash of his ample hairy torso, I won't post his back photo (2007).
Some have even resorted to clowning with costumes (2007).
So, it turns out I won't be at this first game. I'm teaching on Sunday. Who ever has some game photos send them to me or put them on Flikcr for some post-game documentation. -

do we have to know dates for the final exam? -
I'll make sure to document the fun and victory bra hanging party.

Thanks KW, I'll check your Flickr.
So the question has been asked:
"Is the game on despite the rain, or are both teams made of sugar?" -

OC's v. Freddy's: 17 to 16
By 6:50 pm I receive neither text nor call from Freddy's. I suspected that the OC's Big Blue Machine was not in fact made of sugar, even on a moist and sandy afternoon. 17 to 16 was the winning score. 16 to 14 in the 9th? I was told later to show up at OC's for some after-game libation. What happened? -
Yes it was a very dramatic hotly contested seesaw contest w/ the O'C's 10 ultimately pulling out the victory. The Big Fred Machine drew first blood w/ a 2 run blast to right in the bottom of the 9th by centerfielder Pat W. O'C's was able to even the score in the top of the 3rd when O'C's third baseman Bobby stretched his single to center into an inside the prospect park home run after no one bothered to field the throw from center field. These sort of minor but in some ways perfectly understandable mental lapses would plague the Freddy's squad throughout the chilly April evening as the temperature plummeted and the tall boys disappeared. By mid-game Freddy's once seemingly insurmountable 5 run cushion had been erased and O'C's vaulted ahead to a one run lead. Still team Fred could have won the game if they had hung on to their two run lead going into the top of the 9th. Again, a fielding mishap (running past the ball without picking it up) allowed 2 O'C's runs to score, meaning that despite giving up a total of 17 runs, Freddy's starting pitcher Matt K only allowed three earned runs.
Recently named interim O'C's manager Thomas went with O'C's aged ace, Kenny, a southpaw recently called up from the taxi squad. He lowered his ERA to 16 and consistently frustrated Freddy's hitters with his ball movement and brazen trash talk.
Everyone agreed it was an epic contest, perhaps the most exciting in the 3 year history of play. The blue bra was taken to O'C's by Freddy's manager Pat O'Shea where bartender/ interim manager, Thomas festooned it across the antlers of the somewhat tawdry and comical inflatable (and purloined) Moose head. -

The photos remind me of the field trip in One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest. -
Subject: Movie Movie
It's true, these photos do look like a scene from the 1975 film adaptation of "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest", but the game played more like "Alien V. Predator: Requiem" meets "Ordinary People". New game photos up shortly.
