chinatown wok n roll on flatbush nr sterling

that space is owned by the same landlord as mei chi and mooney's and she has doubled the rent. i was told many of the storefronts on that block (which i also live on) will be closing including the dry cleaner and christie's. pintchik owns the entire block across the street where the blockbuster and kidney center are and are planning to build a new residential high rise with an anchor retailer (e.g., crate and barrel), hence the higher cost of commercial rental real estate in the area.

any idea when that pintchik project is supposed to start? is that going to take up the whole block?

I am so bummed about Chinatown Wok n' Roll -- dumb name but best Chinese food in Prospect Heights. A large tofu with baby spinach soup was my favorite dinner....filling and healthy. Also had excellent black bean chicken and tofu dishes, and excellent sesame tofu. Not overly fried.
Anyone know what has become of the business, and if the owner is considering opening in a different space?
Come back, Chinatown Wok n' Roll.....we miss you!!!! -
i don't know when the pintchik project is planning to start, but it will be the entire block between st. john's place and sterling on the park slope side of flatbush, based on my understanding. i hope it's soon because the blockbuster building looks like it's going to topple any minute now.
the most interesting thing about wok n' roll (which i agree was the best chinese in p. heights) was their illegal seinfeldian home-made DVD rental business. -
Pintchick does not yet own that entire glob of buildings, but is supposedly trying to buy it all up. I live in a building that takes up a lot of space in the middle of it all and we are not yet owned by Pintchik, though demo-ing this building would be an improvement.
Tons of rent stabilized places here that I guess will be hard to get out (families here 40+ years). -
Wok n Roll was also a great place to get booleg DVDs of movies that are still in the theatres. The MPAA has done several operations there and arrests have been made.

so, the place is closed b/c everyone has been arreested for pirated dvd's?
or, that's just unrelated? -

unrelated. closed because rent doubled. -
about a week ago i saw a piece of paper taped to wok n roll's metal guard gate. the handwritten, unsigned message: "on vacation until June 30, 2008."
the sign wasn't there when I walked by the following morning. so maybe it's a permanent vacation now —— i've no idea whether the message was authentically from wok n roll -
They make great shrimp soup. Especially when you ask them to put extra fresh garlic in. I hope they don't close.

Little Miss Muffin.

What is the place on Washington by St. Johns like? It's on the odd numbered side.

3D's? They make a nice patty. And they have other Carribean stuff as well. I got their shrimp curry for lunch one time, and although it wasn't up to The Islands level, it was quite tasty, and much more realistic than The Islands for a quick bite.
There are at least two other stores with this name in the area that I know of, one further into Crown Heights, and one on (I think) Empire. -

lmm: good for coffee and muffins but the patties at chrysties are better. -
Does anyone know if Christies are going to move somewhere else on Flatbush, or are they closing up shop altogether? It would be sad....and they seem to be making money....
