crips territory? — Brooklynian

crips territory?

edited November -1 in Prospect Heights
I heard some guys on the street saying that Prospect Heights is Crips turf. Has anyone else heard the same thing? Does anyone know if this is true?

  • according to the Crips gang members I taught in Crown Heights a couple of years ago, yes it is true.
  • absolutely. I also taught in the area last year and have many former students who are gang members. Every time I see a posting about someone getting mugged by teenagers I assume it is one of them.
  • so then i guess the next question is: so what? i think it interests me because i did a community assessment for a social work class two years ago and found that many local business owners do not believe that things will improve until the drugs and gangs are dealt with on washington avenue (which i now know are crips). i also find it interesting because i am a white, middle class resident who moved here a few years ago and was pretty much oblivious to gang stuff in the neighborhood (and still was, until i heard these guys talking). its like an alternate universe kind of thing.
  • last summer i saw a bunch of crips in crown heights. and the weirdest thing was everyone was minority except this young very looking blonde girl about 15. standing there with the colors etc... and i'm thinking wow.
  • Nice!
I was kinda hoping we leaned to the Crip side. I mean, Snoop, the rest of Tha Dogg Pound, all of NWA (minus Dre of course)... That's rich history right there. Everybody knows Crips have more fun.

More likely, there's just not that much of it going on. For what it's worth, the only gang color display i've ever seen (once!) in PH is some teenage kid with a red bandana in his back pocket...which would seem to counter the crips theory, unless he was looking for trouble. Of course I'm only assuming he was actually flying gang colors...maybe he just had a runny nose.
  • I met an elder statesman from the Crips at Ripple prior to its closing...seemed like a nice enough guy...
  • Sterling and Booyah.....too funny.
  • I was under the impression that all land north of St. Marks was Flavor Country, all land south of Sterling is Funkytown, and the area in between is The Land of The Lost.

    The important question here is...

...does Funkytown extend to the east into Crown Heights?
  • Crips at Ripple

i believe the preferred term now is physically disabled.
  • Subject: Don't Believe the Hype

The 77th precinct reported 15 murders last year. That's 15 too many, but still seems a little low for an area with gang activity don't you think? Sounds like we have kids running around with red and blue shirts on. Scary.

  • gang shooting each other is not good for business. most gangs usually follow which block belongs to whom.

they rarely cross those lines, unless they want a war and deaths.
  • Subject: disarming idiots with facts

good luck with that, i don't think it works to often. the facts seem to bounce off.

you mean physically challenged. or is it street cred challenged?
  • Man, sometimes Southpark just nails it.
  • Hell yeah! That's my favorite South Park episode ever.
  • Man, I've heard some serious things about Roller and 4 Legz. NOT a pair of dudes you wanna run into in the park at 3am.
  • The latest turf lines are usually discussed at thehoodup

  • I ATTEMPTED to read some posts that recycler left a link to. I know I'm past my hip/cool period in life, but I could barely read the posts. Whoa, a whole different language.

It doesn't help that the "crips" (or maybe the 14 year old middle class kids in Kansas pretending to be crips...who knows) substitute a "c" for every "b", and the "bloods" stick an extra "k" after every "b".

But yeah, that site is pretty scary/annoying/sad (and some of them are definitely local, by the references to various projects). Also, is it a mark of how gangsta you are to write in all caps? Or are gang members just a little slow to adapt to netiquette?

The one good thing, i did a search and found no mention of Prospect Heights!!!..although plenty of Crown Heights talk.

Sad yes, scary no. A gangsta spending time on that site is a gangsta who's not on the street.

Yeah, especially because I know that if two dudes came up to me and told me their names were "Roller" and "4Legz", I wouldn't be able to help but laugh my ass off. Then the shit would hit the fan. :P
