Bicycle Station?

Does anyone reading this have any contact info for any of the the staff at the Bicycle Station on Vanderbilt???

I am supposed to do the 5BBC Montauk ride tomorrow. I dropped my bike off there on Tuesday so he could make some minor repairs, I go there this AM to pick it up and he is **closed**!!!.

If anyone knows how I can contact someone to get my bike, today, Saturday, I would much appreciate it.

  • Subject: oh that sucks

are you the one that left the note on the door? i walked by and saw that and i felt sooo bad - what happened? did you have to miss the montauk ride? i had the same kind of problem there a while ago.
  • I stopped by myself on Saturday as well; they're good people, so I felt bad for THEM (I know the owners have a small child, and she's the one I thought of when they said it was illness in the family).

But I've just tried calling them today to see if they're open again -- no dice. Anyone know?
  • They're not open on Mondays. Just went by there myself. My bike seat JUST got stolen from Atlantic Center, so I wanted to get some prices. Fuckin people, man.

Where do you usually chain your bike up over there?
  • This was actually only the second time I've parked there. It was right outside the Old Navy, on the bike rack. Went and filed a "report" at the security office (they just took my name address, and phone). They were nice about it, took me seriously enough (for what is was worth). They figured that someone did it just "for spite."
They told me to call at the end of the week to see if it shows up. This is me NOT holding my breath. :-&

Ugh, that sucks. When you get the seat replaced, see if the bike shop will put a short piece of old bike chain in there to attach the seat to the frame. That's the standard method for detering seat theft.

Oh, thanks so much for that info. I had no idea you could even do that, but you can bet that's exactly what I'm going to do!

Yeah, I don't know why people steal seats--unless its obviously an expensive one. I just bring mine in with me, post and all. It has a tire pump in it so I can't run a chain to attach it to the frame.

Good to know there is a bike rack somewhere over there though. I hadn't noticed it.
  • Oh, so did anyone hear if Bicycle Station is open again today? I need to replace a tire, and like to give them my business since they don't rip me off like the Manhattan shops.
  • Mike was sick as a dog Saturday, otherwise there's no way in hell he'd close the shop on a weekend. Bicycle Station was open again on Sunday, the hours have returned to normal.

Unfortunately, that's one of the downsides to owning a small mom & pop business, if the owner is sick, sometimes the shops closed. Rare, but it happens.

Aw. Poor Mike. :( He's such a nice guy, I hate to hear that he had to lose a weekend day's worth of business.

Thanks for letting me know. I'll call to see if they have what I need in stock.
  • It's open today. I picked up my bike following a tune up. They're pretty backed up over there these days due to bike month according to the person that checked my bike in. It took over a week for a tune up but they're good people.
  • Ah, good to know.
