Behavior modification?

Has anyone had experience (good, bad, otherwise) with Renee at Walk This Way? We're looking into some professional assistance for Berkeley and I was wondering whether anyone had used her services....

  • I took her basic obedience class. It was a lot of fun and we learned basics, like sit, down, leave it, (drop it—which obviously didn't stick with Henry), and coming when called. She's really funny and good with people and dogs. Someone here may want to correct me if I'm wrong, but I think she mainly uses positive reinforcement (treat based methods) and clicker training. I'm not sure what she does, though, for one-on-one behavior modification with specific problems.
Henry (who is the most food motivated dog I've ever met) for some reason, doesn't really respond to clicker training. I decided to go with something different for his bigger problems (leash aggression, stealing toys from other dogs, stealing food from people etc...). Now, I'm working privately with a trainer who uses Natural Dog Training methods. I learned about this from someone at the park who I think has an amazing relationship with her dog. Only had one session so far, so we'll see how it goes.

Maybe I'll see you around the neighborhood soon and I can tell you more about both experiences.
  • Henry looks so sweet in your avatar photo!!

I would love to hear more about your experiences with both trainers. Berkeley's ball obsession is completely out of control and I feel like it's causing him to miss out on a lot of good stuff (offleash, puppy playgroup, doggie daycare).
  • You could also ask for advice on trainers/ball obsession on urbanhound. http://ny.urbanhound.com/houndTalk/default.asp
My trainer posts answers there regularly and so does another trainer who has completely different methods than mine. It can be really helpful.
  • If that is Berkeley, s/he is absolutely adorable!
  • @ Ruska: thank you! His cuteness makes up for his mischief.......
  • i've worked with renee in the past and she is awesome.

are you working with Tyril Frith for the aggression?
  • We'll probably call Renee next week to see if we can set up an evaluation for Berkeley.
