  • spoke with the owners last week. Undergoing renovations for a month. Says it's going to be 'very different'.
  • oh yeah, meant to post this yesterday. I walked by in the morning and they were pretty much taking out everything (shelves, counters, etc). So seems like they're starting fresh...which is good.
  • Awesome! I love that place.
  • I have had a bad taste in my mouth about that place ever since the owner saw me hike up my pants and accused me of stealing from him. I emptied my pockets and he still didn't believe me.
  • hmm, that sucks that you were treated that way. Generally, I've found the owners to be friendly and pleasant.
  • Just walked by there today. This is very good news, that place looked like it was in a third world country.

They probably have had to deal with a lot of theft and are hyper-alert to any "suspicious" behavior. Not to excuse the way you were treated, but just to say that it's easy to understand how it can happen.
I've also always found the owners to be really nice.
  • I was still very insulted as I had been a regular customer for over 10 years at the time. I've only gone back there once since (emergency beer run as the bodega on lincoln & underhill has no more liquor license), and the guy remembered me and could not look me in the eye.
  • Just walked by, and the inside is being totally gutted. The place is going to be all new inside. Now I wonder if they're going to spruce up the outside as well...

Did the get rid of those evil sagging shelves full of old products in the window? That and the graffitti were the two biggest eyesores, IMO.
  • It's completely gutted.
  • Are they changing the selection to organic? Think I heard that somewhere.

I hope not all their stuff. I mean it's nice to have fancy stuff, but a neighborhood store has to have the basics.
  • Maybe they'll put it back to the way it was....minus the horse...though that would be cool too...until it got smelly.

ok...i've exceeded my old PH photo post quota for the week :)
  • Thought he had sold the place? I'm glad their making improvements. Hope they keep the stale cat piss smell that was always around.

    :D
  • I can't bring myself to enter most of the bodegas on Underhill because of the cat pee smell.
  • My neighbor told me yesterday after running into Sammy and Charlie that they plan on reopening in a month and will reopen w/a huge party, BBQ for the kids!

    Can't wait!
