LimoLiner to Boston? — Brooklynian

LimoLiner to Boston?

does the wifi really work?

Comments

  • Wow.

    http://www.dashes.com/anil/2007/12/unsolicited-testimonial-limoliner.html

That is super cool, and hopefully a harbinger of more transport things to come.

It would be nice if there was an option somewhere between the LimoLiner ($$$) and the "Chinatown Bus" ($)

Or is that where Greyhound fits in?
  • How about Acela train? I did that a lot to Baltimore and WiFi works about 90% of the time
  • acela = more expensive than limoliner! and amtrak was down yesterday on the boston/nyc corridor. pain in the ass.
  • anyway, I'll report back (perhaps from the ride itself!) re: quality etc.
  • acela might be worth it going south from new york, but the short distance to boston and the speed restrictions on that rail mean it's not much quicker than taking a regular amtrak train. (track restrictions because of curves and signaling systems mean acela can't go anything like as fast as the cars are designed to. which is dumb and annoying, but catch the government spending anything like the amount of money given to highways and airports on rail infrastructure.)

amtrak is messed up this week between boston and nyc because of a bridge they're repairing/replacing. sucks, but should be better service afterwards.

<--- beginning to turn into a big train geek.
  • so posting from the limoliner. people are watching tv shows off websites. its awesome. except it was late. traffic.
  • So it's less a Fung Wah bus, and more a "F*ck Yah!" bus?

    Nice.

What was scheduled -vs- actual travel time, in this case?

that's cool. didn't even know such a thing existed.
  • Acela is good if you're going to do a ton of laptop work. The shocks on that monster are incredible. Otherwise you're not saving much time or money. $99 for a luxury ride to Boston isn't bad though.
  • Yah, when I take the Acela it's because I'm not paying ;-)
  • limoliner was about an hour late. on the ride back, took acela. the regional in front of us hit a tree that had been struck by lightning. we still passed it. kinda awesome. but. wifi did NOT work on acela.
  • Wi-Fi on all Amtraks suck. I used a AT&T 3G Express which was phenomenal in performance but lousy in costs. NYS taxes upped the monthly by at least 30%. I'm curious did you notice the route LimoLiner took? Was it I-95N straight to Boston?

yep, it was 95N straight to Boston. I heard that almost all of the other bus services are going to start offering wifi, but obviously not the super nice seats, etc. the shocks on the acela are much better. now I just need work to hurry up and buy me a verizon card (or whoever else) so I can ignore the onboard services and use a dedicated line. I gotta say: trying to vpn while competing with people streaming episodes of lost is a little tough.

Well, especially if the cool air is flowin', there are options...
