  • I have used some day laborers for such a job and I was able to hire some from the corner of Ft. Hamilton Pkway and 36th (or thereabout - right at the end of the cemetery)

  • There's a man who sometimes works at Fabrica on Vanderbilt—sorry, I forget his name—but I know that he does yard clean up. He's a nice man, very friendly, and has a portfolio of his previous work...

  • Thank you all sooo much. I am on it. I have a huge yard...bricked but the weeds are coming thru and after a few storms and some tree branches that broke the second glass patio table in weeks...I need to get this in order to throw some bbqs.

  • Stacey....do they set the price or do I for the day laborers?.I would say the yard sweep up and removing 2 patio tables (need to break them down to get them thru the door) is about 2 hours work if that.

  • I've found if you tell them honestly what you need and treat them with respect you'll get a fair price from them.

and if you do get day laborers provide some cold water, soda, beer or something to be nice. Just sayin' it's hot out there.

Usually I go there with a price I want to pay and a couple times they accepted the price I wanted to pay and a few times they told me. I had a lot more work in my yard (we filled a whole dumpster) and the two guys we hired charged us $150 each and not only did they get the garbage out in record time they were nice enough to pull the weeds and turn the dirt for me.

For your job I would say that $50-$75 per person is what you should be willing to pay. As quick and hard as most of these guys work I wouldn't be surprised if its less than 2 hours.

Plus like Mamcita said - I always have plenty to drink and eat for them.

  • Thanks.I have already taken pix of the backyard to show them when I go to Ft Hamilton Pkwy so they see what is needed.Really will probably need 2 to 3 contractor bags for the job, if that many.If I didnt hurt my back lifting in air conditioners I would do it myself. They will get to savor my caribbean coolers.....sorrel and , the fave...ginger pineapple limeade or soursop punch along with sandwiches and chips.

  • Subject: craigslist has a labor section

craigslist has a labor section, the going rate is likely around $20 an hour.

just post what you need done, then weed thru the replies.

  • There is a guy named Ulysses who sometimes works at Laundry King. You may be able to leave a msg for him there with your address. He cleaned my neighbor's and my yard. Did a great job and is cheap. He hangs around the neighborhood a lot and is often around Prospect Place.
