4th ave pub spinoff opening at washington and park

walking down park yesterday afternoon i was surprised to see someone coming out of the long-shuttered doors on washington just south of park -- east side of the street.

asked the guy what was going on, and he said he was opening a bar and restaurant of some kind. said he was one of the guys who opened 4th avenue pub on 4th and bergen (?).

much as i liked having ripple down the block for an easy drink, i'm not all that excited about having more bars up here -- leave all the baseball caps and loud voices to vandy and the city, i say.

next thing you know, that crazy looking sports bar that everyone says was trouble will open on the other side of washington and park, and then...the apocalypse.

now you know. unless you already did.

  • I've been to the 4th Avenue Pub and it's anything but loud - the crowd is a bit older and very relaxed.

I'll try this place as soon as it opens, which will hopefully be soon. At this rate, I'll be able to fulfill all of my nightlife needs without leaving the neighborhood!

You are right, though, about the general PH/CH border area hosting a lot of bars: over the past few years we've seen Plan B, Sepia, Weather Up, Barrette, Beast, expansion of Soda, Franklin Park, and now this one.

We very well might be the drunkest neighborhood in Brooklyn, no?

  • i'm confused, rednaxela -- it sounds like you are describing the space formerly known as PK's. is there another former "sports bar" on that corner that was trouble?

  • sorry -- across washington from PKs is where the new place is opening.

  • I'm excited. 4th ave pub has an awesome popcorn machine and delicious beers on tap and in the bottle. a spinoff will be a fantastic addition to the neighborhood!

oh, and I have never experienced loud or obnoxious patrons there like some of the other (across the street) 4th ave establishments. it's more like sheep station, less like cherry tree ... if you've frequented that area.

  • Was the guy a bald guy, thin?
He's the owner at the 4th ave pub.

  • Across from PK's, isn't that a police precinct?

  • It's on the other side of Washington Avenue, not Park Place—that is, most assuredly, a police precinct filled with charming cops who love parking on the sidewalk.

Geez, must you be reminded that not ALL of them get free LIRR and METRO cards... </sarchasm>
  • Any news on when this new place will open? Yeee-haw is what I say!
  • One of my good friend's cousins was the owner of PKs when it was PKs.

Curious to see what they have in store for it.
  • I was at my friend's house for dinner on Saturday. We were sitting on her deck in the back and it sounded like a party was going on. My hostess informed me it was 4th Ave pub and they have been the WORST neighbors in regards to noise.
Most bars have signs that ask patrons to keep their voices down, or better yet, they close the outside at a certain time. NOT SO with 4th Ave pub. The people that live above them have a 6 month old, and they need to move. My friend said that its like that every night.
  • I'm not getting it... what does PK stand for?
