Posh Pets on Flatbush Cruel to Animals
I just wanted to alert all of the pet owners in the area...
I was walking down the street yesterday and witnessed a very big man whip a very tiny dog with the end of a leather leash. Extremely hard. He then proceeded to hit the dog with an open hand. Extremely hard. Hard enough and loud enough to stop me and others dead in our tracks. As the dog was cowering and whimpering, I looked up only to recognize the man, and the other two men he was walking with, from the groomer/pet store on Flatbush where I sometimes buy my cat food. I have already contacted The Humane Society but I thought it was also important to let you guys know. I'm assuming this is not an isolated incident, these things usually aren't, but I do not know for sure. But if they are comfortable doing something like this on the street, who knows what they are doing in the shop. The point is...I wouldn't trust these people with my pet.
The store is called Posh Pets and it is located at 256A Flatbush Avenue.

I'm glad you posted this here! That is horrible and people should be aware of it. What a low life piece of crap he is to hit a dog like that - especially a tiny one!!!

This isn't the first report of abuse from there, FWIW.

They broke my yorkie's leg and were very rude and nasty about it. -

Wow! thanks for pointing that out. I'll include it in my report to the Humane Society and the ASPCA. If Waterpilgrem is reading this...please be in touch. It would be really helpful to have you on board.

That post is from a guest two years ago, so uh, good luck. It could happen.

Just found this on urbanhound when doing a Google search. It's from 2006 so apparently this has been going on for a long time. http://www.urbanhound.com/houndTalk/Forum.asp?linkid=8393&linklevel=1

Is this true or do you work for the new dog place opening in Gowanus? I'm not saying you are a liar. I'm just saying that I couldn't help but wonder. Those are some serious allegations that could kill a business. If true, I appreciate you posting, thank you for contacting the humane society, and think it would be great if TV news people put hidden cameras in that place.
Anyone who hits dogs should not be in any dog business. -

Posh Pets did a hatchet job on a friends dog, I'm talking multiple clipper burns and slices of her skin removed. It was horrible.

I buy my cat food there, and I would not want to jump to conclusions about Post Pets being horrible. Last time I was in there, the woman behind the desk was very concerned that a dog owner was not taking care of her pet properly. The owner had let the dog suffer, and the store was quite strong in defending the health of the dog.
Of course, there could be huge problems that I have not witnessed, but I am a regular (if infrequent) customer, and I have not seen anything to suggest that they are cruel. -

I have now spoken to the ASPCA. They said they basically can't do anything without an injured animal that they can examine and determine was hurt while in the care of Posh Pets. SO...please, if your animal was hurt in any way by the people at Posh Pets please call the ASPCA's Humane Law Enforcement Dept at 212-876-7700 and make a cruelty complaint.
Let me be clear. I DO want to put these people out of business. I DO understand how serious these allegations are. I DO NOT apologize for this. What I saw made me physically ill. -

You're really terrific for following up on this and trying to do the right thing. Maybe you could put a post on the urbanhound site too. The serious problems at Posh Pets were discussed on that site in 2006. Maybe someone whose pet was hurt there will see that post and contact you. Good luck to you in your efforts!!

I just went to Posh Pets and mentioned that someone had criticized them on this board. They said that this happens sometimes- there was another case where a competitor bashed them and praised their own business.
It's possible that bklynem is such a poster- I do not have any proof, but it's a little suspicious that this is a new poster who disappears after bashing a store.
I would be curious if other people could come up with specific cases where their pet has been injured, and if you have a dog, mention how often you groom your pet.
I regularly go there, and it is clean, and the people who work there have been helpful. I'm more inclined to believe the store owner than the posters who criticized the store, but I'm interested in finding out the full story.
Also, can anyone identify the worker mentioned here:bklynem wrote: I was walking down the street yesterday and witnessed a very big man whip a very tiny dog with the end of a leather leash. Extremely hard. He then proceeded to hit the dog with an open hand.
I don't think any of the employees at the store fit that description. -
Nice quote Cass indeed!

Please see above posts for numerous examples of pets being injured or mistreated at Posh Pets.
Sort of a strange stance to take...but I guess I understand. I promise you this is true.
It was three dark skinned men (unsure of exact nationality). One of which I believe to be the owner.
I am pursuing this so I guess the authorities will decide...
Howdy, Stranger!
