FYI...
Several emails sent to Letitia James' office this morning got an immediate response, so if you have the time and the inclination: [email protected]
(also, there were some rumors that the sound system at the party had a permit; according to James' office, no permit exists) -

I emailed Councilwoman James too and was impressed that she replied so quickly. She asked when the next tennant's association meeting was and said she could invite someone from the 77th to attend.
My building only meets once a year. Is there another block association or other kind of meeting to invite them too? Better yet, they could come over here and post with us. -

I would hate to make it more difficult for an officer to get to an emergency call because I (we) chose to call 911 about noise. Seems like there should be better implementation of communication for the 311 answering officer trying to contact on patrol personnel.
Let's make it easier on everybody in the future. Just call 911 instead of 311 and the precinct. .... -

okay guys - a purported cop has told us to call 911 for noise complaints. so. I'm taking that as gospel and will call 911 in the future with noise complaints. -

One thing that I have learned from postings on this board is that if I ever question whether I should call 911 for X or call something else, the answer is almost certainly that I should call 911.
This is assuming that I am a reasonable human being.
And assumption, of course, is the mother of all screw ups. -

Not saying that either side is stupid, but how is it that a group of neighbors hears a loud party and calls the cops, but when the cops show up they don't hear the party?

All the music was being played at frequencies that cops can't hear.
Like those teenager abatement devices. -

All people ask for is some common courtesy. Not too much to ask.
We have officially nicknamed St. Johns / Washington / Lincoln area the "Wild West" at our house seeing as anything goes in that area.
Letme get this strait. You can brake the law when you feel like. Where do you buy you weed. Next time you feel like smoking let me know. I'll make sure to call the 77, 311 and 911. Guess what, keeping drug dealers in business is alot worse than a little loud music. Remember he is without sin may cast the first stone! -

Calls regarding noise to 911 will only be rerouted to 311. If there is a disorderly group smoking marihuana thats a different story and that type of call would be dispatched through 911.

Disagreement in the ranks!
What if they are LOUD pot smokers?
Or people speaking LOUDLY _about_ smoking pot?
Someone needs to put out a protocol manual. -

Sounds like Kwak and Parade need to work this out through arm wrestling.
Worked for me and possibly_maybe. -

These parties are definitely obnoxious as hell -- and the saddest part is that such lame music (i.m.o) gets bumped over those speakers. If they were playing some funk and soul gems from the 70s and 80s or sumthin I might be down. But I have to admit that it ain't that bad. At least the parties end around midnight, and then it's back to silence on the block. We're lucky we don't have any truly rude mother f**kers bumpin stuff from their bedroom windows or in the shaftway windows to keep us up throughout the night. These parties take place literally feet from my apartment, in full view from my windows and in even fuller sound, so on nights like last, I either (a) take off and hit a bar for a few; or (b) crank up my shit loud enough to drown out the party's garbage taste in music.
Again, this is New York City (never sleep nickname insert) and it could be a helluva lot worse. That said, nothing wrong with filing complaints. Always love when folks get involved in trying to keep their community up to their standards, and more folks need to speak out when they feel others are acting out of line.

No disagreement in the ranks. I didn't want to be so obvious about telling you how to get service through 911. In regards to keeping a cop from going to an emergency because you called 911 for noise...either way it's gonna be the same cop who shows up so it makes no difference.

I find it funny that this post is next to a post about a bar going in on washington and how it will make too much noise.

No, it's not reserved for life-and-death type emergencies.
In another non life-and-death situation - when my car got moved for a film shoot, I called 311. They told me to call 911 to talk to the police. -
