I don't know if this is an important development or not, but I noticed today that there is a NY1 style channel dedicated to Brooklyn on Cablevision on Channel 12 on Cablevision. My initial reaction is that this either means that Brooklyn has attained a new status in terms of marketability and buying power or that Cablevision is launching an assault on Time Warner's monopoly on local news (Time Warner ownes NY1 and Cablevision has to pay to broadcast it, whereas Cablevision owns News 12). In any event, lets hope that we start to see reports on issues that we care about, e.g. the Ratner arena, Prospect Park, etc.

Another news venue is always good. To be fair, though, NY1 is avctually very good about covering the outer boroughs.

News12 is not new; it's been a Cablevision property for years in their entire footprint. I believe (though I'm not certain) that it might be getting a slightly higher profile in Brooklyn lately because it was recently moved from an obscure channel (50-something) to channel 12, which is the channel it's on in NJ and LI.

News 12 is new to Brooklyn. Cablevision has been airing Bronx 12 and Long Island 12 for awhile but just launched News 12 in Brooklyn this week.

I've had News12 in Bkln as long as i've been living here, but on another channel
