Vanderbilt Laundry RIP OFF
I was just charged an additional $7 for having a 2X3 bathmat cleaned here!!! The bathmat costs about $3 from Ikea but needed to be washed in the "special machine". Ditto for a light cotton blanket that has been washed in regular machines for the last 5 years I've owned/cleaned it. That's a grand total of $14 in "special charges".
I always drop off my laundry and have never been charged anything additional for these items but my regular placed was closed today. What a rip!
Vanderbilt Laundry between Park and Sterling ---Don't do it.

yikes, that's the place that convinced my brother that he needed his sheets to be dry cleaned for $20
-
The place has been empty both times I went in today...must heed the signs.

is your brother interested in acquiring an exciting property spanning the east river? -

they don't do dry cleaning there, do they? Why would it be in their best interest to lead him in that direction? -
i don't know, i've never been there.

Is the the laundry near Park Place? Hmm, I've never had a problem there, but then I only go there when I need something big and bulky washed. I recently had a down comforter and cover washed and dried for $22. Yeah, a little spendy, but it sure beat hanging out there for two hours.

there's this guy that seems to work there who i saw smack his dog in the face so hard that the dog yelped. that's enough to make me believe he's a total asshole and because of that incident - i would never frequent the place.

is there a dropoff laundry place people like better?

The laundry place by Met Grocery on Vanderbilt between Prospect and Park is good. There is also one on Underhill between Park and Sterling that is ok. They seem to loose more clothes but maintain a "lost and found" so I have had some things returned when I reported them missing.
Bubbleworks is also good, corner of Washington and Prospect. They are a little pricier but offer pickup and delivery. -
The people who run this place (the one between sterling and park pl) are nuts, especially the older woman who appears to run it. I used to do drop off there on the way to work until they finally pissed me off. First they started complaining that I dropped my laundry bag on the scale too hard. Then, one time when I went to pick up my laundry this woman asked me for a tip for my "folder". Now, I've done laundry drop off at a number of places over the years and I wasn't aware you were supposed to tip for laundry service, and anyway, when was the last time you had somebody ask you for a tip? Leaving a tip jar out is one thing, but asking you for a tip? So I pulled out a buck for the "folder" (that sounds ridiculous) and she says, "no, that's an insult.. you save it for next time." So, they lost a customer.
Anybody else here tip for your "folder"? -

I think you mean btwn Sterling and St Johns. Btwn Park and Sterling is all residential. -
The "older woman" sold the place. She ran a tight ship and could be annoying untill you realized that she kept it immaculate and did an excellent job with the laundry. The add on prices for rugs etc. are posted and to be avoided. As with any service if you establish a relationship with the employees and tip where appropiate you'll get better service.

Yeah, because you scuzzed it up. $3 brand new and $7 to recreate brand newness by eliminating strangers' foot scent and hair is fair. -

That is F-ed up. I'll call the humane society if I see him hurt dogs.
