  • So, was last night really the end for Mooney's? I wonder what will open in that space.
  • Well damn. Having only been in the neighborhood for a few months we had yet to make it over there. :(
  • Yarn Monkey, why didn't you post yesterday and give us a heads up?
My brother is in town and he wanted to go there (used to live here) and I thought it had closed already. Damn, I could have gone. :(

I actually found out the details on Friday night. I was told Mooney's is officially closing it's doors next week Wednesday, so don't try to steal the taps off the bar just yet. You and bro should grab a cold beer at Mooney's tonight. It's best to out with a smile.
  • Crap I missed it.
Let's do a board Happy Hour - MONDAY??? How about it?

I get off work at 2am on Monday. If you guys will still be out, I'm down.
  • Subject: mooney's

I won't be out until 2AM, but will join folks for a beer.

...on the real estate front, I'm trying to think (aka dream up) of what I would put in the soon to be vacated space. I might try to get the diner next to it. The Diner and Mooneys seemed to be stuck in 1978.
  • Mooney's. Monday. Night. I'm there.
  • The brother in law leaves today.
I'll be spending the evening crashed out on the couch, AC blaring, cocktail in one hand and my netflix. Chillin' like a villian

I'm up for tues or Wed though.
  • looks like a bunch of yuppies and hipsters but not both.
  • Mel B was there? Cool.
  • I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I'm 95% sure that last night was the actual last night for the ole Chez Mooney...

I know they had almost no beer and almost no mixers Sunday night and Scot turned in his keys, so unless one of the Mooneys is behind the bar, I think it is over.

But might be worth a try just in case - just don't want you to be totally disappointed if it doesn't work out.
  •
Screw park slope, I'm moving to Bay Ridge! WhaaaaaaaWaaaaaa!
  • Subject: no beer = no me

well, if they are out of beer, you can count me out. plus, it sounds like a very small group so far.
  • i just called up...
the voice on the other end said they're closed.
    for good....
  • so, now that Mooney's is history ...what would you put in that location if you had a magic wand?

It's big enough for a somewhat high end restaurant. If I could take out the empty diner next to it, I might put in something big, boring and profitable ....like a Pier I.

There is alreadys lots of stuff nearby, so the trick is to either get us all to say "yes, that's a great idea", or to have it actually happen.

...no fair cheating and using insider information....
  • I want a vietnamese restaurant. I mean. I want Mooney's back. but. that's not my decision.
  • Dang- I missed the last night at Mooney's AND the last party at Florent. I am like, not doing too good on my party girl intuition this week. Day-yum!
  • What I would put in that space if I had a magic wand would be Smooney's Pub. Or Mrooney's. Mnooney's? Fooney's?

Damn it, I WANT MOONEY'S BACK. I can't decide which will piss me off more: the place staying vacant, like the same landlord's Royal Video property, or some lame ass corporate whorestore moving in. You know it's not gonna be anything with a tie to the neighborhood.

The closing night bash on Saturday was kinda fun, in a late-Weimar-Republic sort of way.
  • Landlord is asking $12,000/mo for a five year lease with option to renew. I can't imagine what kind of business can afford that.
  • Hmm. there's already a Sleepy's in Atlantic Center.....
but, I think it will be something uses the nightlife (aka serves booze)

TGI Friday or something horrible could occur, there is enough foot traffic.
