What's a good bar that might be reasonably empty on a Sunday
Subject: What's a good bar that might be reasonably empty on a Sunday
My birthday is a few Sundays from now, and I'd like to get together with friends in the early evening to just kick back and have a few drinks someplace that's fairly chill but nice enough that my Manhattan friends don't feel dragged "all the way out to Brooklyn" for nothing.Unfortunately I don't often go out on Sundays so I don't have a very good read on what places might be easy to semi-take over with, say, a dozen people on a Sunday in the early evening. Also, I'm going to either be away or have houseguests every Sunday between now and then, so I can't scope this out on my own.
Where would you go?

Barrette tends to get busy on Sunday afternoon but by 8 pm crowds have disperse and it's a decent place for cocktails, good music and nowadays decent food. I would also try Weathered up and they have a Garden which is nice and quiet, if you want outdoors try Franklin Park. Other than that i would do Union Hall and if you want to impress go to Clover club in Carrol Gardens.
Happy Bday -
Clover Club is fantastic.

Floyd's on Atlantic is great for afternoon birthday gatherings. I've had joint birthday parties with my girlfriend there the past 2 years and its been great. Its a little bit of a hike from the hieghts, but a pretty short bus ride. And for people coming from Manhattan its really convenient since so many train lines stop at Borough Hall.

franklin park could be awesome ... if it's a nice day.

I had a Sunday birthday a few years ago at Sepia. Same # people, sitting on the garden. It was definitely still light out when we started...maybe it was 6pm? Not too much of a problem, was very chill.

Thanks for the tips. I haven't been to Sepia in a while, that one hadn't crossed my mind. I guess I just have to hope that none of these back gardens have a lot of mosquitoes (see all previous threads about mosquitoes...). The weather is definitely an issue. When I was a kid it felt like it rained every year on my birthday.

I think that Pacific Standard on 4th Avenue would be a good choice because they have a lot of room, are usually pretty chill on Sundays and it's only a few blocks from the Atlantic/Pacific street station for your friends coming from Manhattan. Friendly bartenders too.

If you the ultimate Brooklyn Dive-y bar with a whole lotta character go to Freddy's on the corner of Dean and Carlton. Inexpensive drinks with a good poor and the beer is pretty inexpensive, great films on the TV's. Poor Freddy's will not be around much longer either... It is in the footprint of the Atlantic Yards Project!

seconded. they have a backroom that should be empty if you get there fairly early. you may want to check their calendar since they have concerts/random events that can fill the place.

if it was a monday i'd recommend sidecar but they get too busy to take over on nights when the kitchen is open. -
P.S. if you go to Pacific Standard, you can negotiate a special drink deal or two. Talk to the owners John and Jon, yo.

Sepia would normally get my vote. But it probably would make Manhattan friends feel dragged out, cuz its not on a main road, and a bit of a hike from the Q (okay not from the 2,3, but yes from the Q). Also, the back area outside has alternately been open and not open, and alternately has had broken down chairs or not. But I love it otherwise.
