leave him alone. if he does something bad, do what you're supposed to do. otherwise, leave him alone.
thanks. -

no. a really nice guy with a really nice wife who just so happens to like his beverage. I've known him for years and consider him (and his wife) as part of the prospect heights family. so. leave him alone. he crosses a line w/ you at soda - talk to toly/the bartender. otherwise, ignore him if he's not your thing. don't be a jerk to a drunk at a bar -- why are you at the bar?
-
Uh, shouldn't the drunk not be a jerk? I don't see how Jimmer2000 did anything jerkey.
-
look. he's a nice guy. if he's being a jerk to you, tell the bartender at the bar or the owner/manager of the bar. if he's scaring you, call the cops. otherwise, I think there's some pretty negative karma coming with posting the person's name and location on an internet board.
and, frankly, drunks are jerks to some degree or another. the worst are mean. some fall down. some laugh really loud. so. get over it unless one of the above criteria are the part of your issue with said drunk.
the person in question is a really nice guy and I just think it's pretty shitty to just bring someone up on a board for no particular reason aside from their inebriation at a bar. -
Leave Duane alone, i am also guilty of getting shit faced and doing and saying shit i am not proud of but it is a fucking bar. We all like and love Duane, drunk or Sober.
Keep drinking Duane!! -
Ok. so this guy is yr buddy. but. as he has the potential. to scare us. we might have to. call the cops? Huh?
Either this guy has a problem, or you need new friends. Or both. Wow.
Tipsiness is not a licence to jerk out. "But I was drunk!" When's the last time that one made everything ok? -
he's NOT scary at ALL. he is a guy who likes to drink. that's it. someone had an issue with him and, instead of dealing with it at the bar, posted on the board. i suggested other ways of dealing with 'problematic' drunks, but duane does NOT FALL INTO THOSE CATEGORIES. he is a normal, nice guy. just likes to have a few. so everyone: please stop. enough. a regular guy does not deserve to be disparaged for no reason like this.
-
Hey, you said he was scary:

You made it sound like this was a real possibility. And I didn't use anyone's name.
So quick to defend this guy! What's the deal with that? (I don't really want to know). -
so you don't want to know. or you do. can you make a decision. here's my quick defense reasoning: he's a nice guy.
my advice, I'm sure, will be backed up by bar owners and cops everywhere: if you are annoyed to a horrible degree by a bar patron, tell the barkeep/manager/owner. if you feel threatened, call the cops. that's it. nothing personal to ANYONE. just straight up good advice. do you disagree? -

Um....maybe she knows him?(I don't really want to know).
So...why....did you ask? -

Yeah, knows he's a volatile jerk.queencallipygos wrote:

Wow - really no need to get so snarky so quickly.
If this is the guy I think it is, he's kinda of like the description of Earth in the Hitchhiker's Guide: mostly harmless. Sure, he can be loud (at times), but my overall impression is that he's a pretty good egg, And I think alafairnadia makes a valid point that singling him out by name just b/c he was loud, is pretty petty and mean-spirited. Just my $0.02. -
If you get drunk enough and make enough of a scene to make random people want to come onto a message board and make a comment about you, you deserve all of the aformentioned no matter how "nice" you are. If you go out and make a fool of yourself in public, it is fair game for people to come and write about it. Just my $.02.

Duane? Love the guy. So nice even that I'm sure he'd never out anyone that annoyed him by name on the ol' DailyHeights.com or whatever this fn place is called now!

thank you. -
it seems to me that at least half of this guy's problem is a PR one. choosing the moniker "drunk duane" is just gonna lead to some unfair criticism and asumptions. PR is not really my thing, but i would suggest something more along the lines of "debonair duane" or perhaps "'dignified duane." or, although it loses the alliteration, "totally awesome duane."

Wow. yeah. Sounds like the OP is in the right to me. If the nice guy is drunk and annoying, talk to him, not the bar owners ---that goes for me too if I ever offend any of you when I'm drunk, which could likely happen :-) -
I am just going to have to go to Soda to see this Dapper [REDACTED] for myself. I'll report back when I can. I promise I won't be a jerk unless jerked forth upon first.
What ever happened to Jimmer2000? -

i can only imagine a scenario where you go there and ask DD to step forward and the entire bar crowd responds, spartacus-like, "I am drunk duane." -

I only went there once and got into a conversation with him that was very very unpleasant. I'm good around drunk people, I think, and not aggressive and will generally agree just to assuage overly excited people, but he was very very rude.
I haven't been back and I have to say he was a reason why -- the regulars and bartender, who were sympathetic that he was picking on me (I tried to get out of the conversation, moved, but he'd seen me as a good target) said he was a regular so I didn't want to endure that again. -

In Jamaica they have centres for these things...
-
so he's a very loud talking gregarious drunk who thinks everyone in the bar wants to engage in conversation with him? Is that it? And the conversations are only of interest to him? So he's perhaps a boor, is that it?
One loud boorish drunk and people avoid a neighborhood bar? A lot of y'all must have done your drinking at some old-timey ladies' auxilliary tea parties or somesuch. A bad jukebox or funky smell'll keep me out a bar I like - not one loud guy.
Unless the guy's screaming obscenities and picking fights and getting all up in your grill - in which case he should be tossed. -
I think we need a poll. Still haven't gone yet. Does [REDACTED] still work there?

he never worked there. -

Basically, yeah. Why would I choose to go a bar I kinda like knowing that there's a regular there who is obnoxious and likes to pick verbal arguments, who I can't assuage or get away from.
Unless the guy's screaming obscenities and picking fights and getting all up in your grill - in which case he should be tossed.
Basically, he was yelling at me because he didn't share my opinion on something he brought up.
There are other bars that do not have as obnoxious regulars. -
josseleen wrote: There are other bars that do not have as obnoxious regulars.
Well, maybe at different shifts, but I'm assuming its the same guys in different (douche bag) costumes. -
yeah, I'd say every bar ever has regulars some folks might find annoying, especially when accosted/cornered by them. I guess I've developed the fight/flight skill of getting away from folks I can't deal with and like the rest of those drunks. but I like to have fun and am pretty sure I have at points been the drunk fuck at the bar (yes, that was me at mooney's jumping up and down and screaming along with fugazi. sorry if that was annoying.)
