i read the news that there was a problem activating the new iphone. anybody had that problem?

I want to get an iPhone 3G. Seems the wait was about 2 hours at the Fifth Ave store yesterday (July 16) and about 3 hours at the 14th St Store today (July 17).
How long did y'all have to wait? Any top tips for avoiding long lines?! -
I am almost certain that I am going to treat myself to one.
Does anybody have one yet?
Can't you also go to AT&T stores? -
I went to an AT&T store at lunchtime and was told they could order one for me. It would arrive in 10 -21 days (!!) but it would be kept for me - they wouldn't sell it to someone else.
I'm totally sucked into the hype and want the new gadget before my trip next week! I can't wait 3 weeks! Will have to wait in line I guess.... -

5th Ave Store - about 9 pm. They'd actually stopped selling them by then (they'd run out). It was one of the staff who said it was about 2 hours.

Looking online, there's a whole discussion here and there doesn't seem to be much difference from store to store....

For people looking to find one:
a co-worker of minewalked in to the Union Sq store and got one last week. He got in line at 8:30, store opened at 9, he was out by 9:30.

Pandora for the iPhone is as easy to use as the website. Just type an artist you want to hear, it will build a radio station of similar songs and broadcast them in FMish-quality. Pandora works well over Wi-Fi, 3G, and even EDGE.
Our own Chris said he played it over EDGE while driving around Southern California and didn't lose signal once. Please do - I work at Un Sq and I need a new phone. Sprint and Palm decided to do a half-ass job of supporting the Treo so it's pretty much dead to me. Lines seem to be stupid long at the three Apple stores in the city and all of the AT&T stores that I have called are only taking orders...

I got one!
I got mine from the 14th St Apple Store today.
Arrived and got in line at 7.47am.
Doors opened 9am.
I made it indoors at 10.30am.
Got to front of line at 12.00 noon.
Up and running, out the store at 12.30pm.
All in all, I can't really believed I waited. It's only a phone after all.
...now I have to spend all weekend figuring it out!

I want one bad but. um. since I need to go to ecuador in less than a month, I'm waiting. does anyone know who/where I can get a motorola krzr (or however it is spelled, not the razr - the littler flip one) hacked so I can swap a sim card in from another country? thx.

I got my unlocked razr on ebay...they may have unlocked krzrs on there. But that's always a crap shoot, that ebay. -

yeah. I already have the phone, just need it unlocked. I mean. I guess I could have them do it in ecuador when I get there but with a 60 lb rottie in tow, I need to hit the ground running if you catch my drift. -
Bah, I'm waiting in line tomorrow morning - my Treo is out of commission and I'm going out of town Thursday - I NEED a phone.

Got to the SoHo store early this morning (after checking availability online) only to be told that as of last night, the store HAD 2 phones, but had somehow sold them before even opening.

Most of the major tech blogs and mags are saying 2-4 weeks before they get a handle on the demand and that Apple "underestimated". That's crap. They knew they were going to get slammed. It's either hype or poor planning...or poor planning that gave them more hype (which is a twisted genius plan)

I figure that I'll keep trying until I head out of town on Thursday (the assisted GPS would be really nice to have for the trip) - if I still can't get my hands on one, I'll place an order at an AT&T store and pick it up when I get back...

A friend of ours managed to walk into the AT&T store on Wall last week and just buy one...I'll let you know if we have luck with the same tomorrow.

I hear that there are only 3 states in the country where there is still any product. also. this is a totally Wii like situation - apple isn't retarded. they just want demand to outstrip product.
