Grandparents visiting for Brunch

I have been searching around the board and come up with some ideas, but wanted to hear what you all thought. My grandparents are coming to visit me on a Sunday and want to go out for brunch around 1:00. We want to go somewhere within walking distance of the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens since that's where they want to go. I live on Park Place near Franklin. I was thinking Abigail's (I've never been, though) but I wanted to know if there were other ideas. I am also nervous about long waits.

    It's not exactly brunch, but the BBG has a surprisingly good cafe.

    Cheryl's is good for brunch too, especially if you can get a seat outside in back. Don't know how the wait always is, but it's super-close to the garden so even if you have to wait a bit it's not too bad.

    not sure what they have in the way of breakfast-y food, but if you want lunch, i suggest teddy's. we've always had a good time with out-of-towners there -- plenty of room, etc.

    Cheryls on Underhill off Eastern Parkway is the place to go. Nuff said .

    Thanks so much! I will talk to them and see if a bit of a wait is ok ... I've been to Cheryl's but only on the first Friday of the month at dinner time - so it was packed with people from the free museum night. Thanks!

    I'd go to beast. call and get a table reserved (PM me if you need a name drop). it's prix fixe which is always nice b/c the prices aren't too high to piss off non-drinkers but if you like having a mimosa or bloody mary that's in the price, too. and their chorizo hash is ... yum. and you can get scallops and couscous if you want, which I like sometimes when I'm feeling anti-egg.

    I will second the cafe at BBG -- especially if it's a nice day. Not to make any assumptions but, if your grandparents are like my grandparents, they won't want to (or really be able to) walk from Cheryl's or Beast to BBG, especially if they plan to stroll around the garden a bit. Even Abigail's would be a stretch.

    Good thinking there, but Cheryl's is right across the street from the entrance, isn't it? Or is the entrance further from Underhill than I'm thinking?

    I was concerned about that as well (walking so much in the heat and all) but they keep saying they will be fine. My thought is we'll walk from the apartment to wherever we decide to eat, sit there for a while, walk to the gardens and do that for a little bit, get a drink/coffee/seat at the BBG cafe to relax, and then either walk back to the apartment or take the subway back.

    I went to Abigail's last night for the first time and loved it, but I've seen how crowded it gets. They are now not coming for 2 more weekends instead of next weekend, so I'm going to try to get to all of those suggested. Thanks!

    Well, Cheryl's is a bit down Eastern Parkway from the entrance to BBG (it's across from the children's entrance to the library, if that helps), and the walk is up a bit of a hill.

    That said, my sleepy head was thinking of the BBG parking lot entrance off Washington because that's my default entrance...and that's a bit of a hike from Cheryl's! Oops.

    this is part of the charm of teddy's, which is closer to bbg than cheryl's or abigail.

    don't go to the BBG cafe if it is a hot day -- you will bake in that little enclosure.
