Atlantic Ave fresh fruit store!

Comments

  • whoa. that place looks great. but atlantic is so unpleasant to walk on that i rarely go down there.
  • I'll have to check this out. I was at the GAP farmers market again this weekend and had the same reaction as always. It's the most boring farmers market I've ever seen. None of the vegetable farmers seem to want to try any unusual varieties. Everyone has the same stuff as everyone else and as is available at the grocery store.
  • whoa. this is the kind of place that could change my mind re: the co-op joining. I can't figure it out though - is it open yet or not? cause I'd actually leave the house for this ....
  • It's open. I was there today. Bucket of beets!
  • Wow- this is great, it looks like it mght be expensive. That goes on my "short bike trip list" for this week.

    ...is not bucket of suck.

    8) :lol:
  • Hey St James , last time i ate beets, i ended up thinking and worrying that something was wrong with me since my pee was coming out red. I got really worried and then realized that the night before i had consumed a huge amount of goat cheese and beet salad. So if you get the red pee just remember that its the beets. Plus i rather bake them for a couple of hours rather than boiling them, you end up losing all the b 12 in the water unless you are going to drink the juice. Enjoy your beets, now you made me crave them. Will check it out this place in the next day or 2.
    Sorry E!
    :wink::wink::wink:
  • anyone know what the hours are?
  • Anyone been to this place today?
  • "Roasted Beets"

    Cut the tops and bottoms. Scrub if you have one of those veggie scrubs.
    Puncture the beet in a few random places. Careful with the knife, the beet can be slippery once the ends have been chopped.
    Cover each beet in tin foil.
    Put oven to 400 degrees.
    Stick on cookie sheet or reuse aluminum take out container.
    20 minutes.
    Turn off oven and try to remember to stick in refrigerator before you go to bed.
    (will keep in oven for a couple of days without serious stomach ailment)

    It's true, everything you eliminate will be red for the next day or so.
  • I was talking to E.C about making beets a while ago and i was talking about roasting the beets at a lower heat but slowed cooked for 3 or 4 hours, letting it rest for an hour or so and dicing it up, a bit of salt, good olive oil and getting some decent goat cheese around the corner on Fulton at Key Food, they do have a decent selection of goat cheese my preferred one is Petit Billy. Carefully cutting the goat cheese into small pieces and mixing up all up and there you go , simple as that. But i guess it would be a winter thing, since who wants to have their oven on for a couple of hours in the Middle of summer?
    Sorry E!! :cry::cry::cry:
  • I walked by today and poked my head around the corner. Very cute interior. Pears at 1.69 lbs, didn't see any other prices. Will go back soon. I think it's a great addition to the neighborhood what with all the new buildings on Pacific, Washington and St Marks.

    Saw a cool coffee loungey place with hip wallpaper near the fruit and veggie place. It's called Frank White and apparently they have a garden. Maybe it's already been posted here on Brooklynian, I only knew them from a postcard I found in the Raw star vegan place on Washington.
  • Frank White is great, and they host private events too.
  • I haver been there, always thought about getting a coffee when going home from the ex apartment, but it always seems so empty!
    O:) O:) O:)
  • eh?

    anyway. the fruit/veg place is cute. not sure on the pricing. was there with h&x and got a vidalia onion, 5 limes and some OJ. it was $5.75. not sure if that's reasonable or not.

    xo
  • well, next time one of you stops by/in there, please find out the hours and post `em here. no one wants to stroll out of their way down the Atlantic No Man's Land just to find a closed shop.
  • we were there after 6 p.m. so ... it's open at least that late.

    they are planning to start having fresh fruit juices and smoothies. I'm thinking they're going for more of the ft. greene/jewish hospital crowd.
  • hey everyone - just stopped in yesterday to pick up a few nectarines and an avocado, and chatted with the owner for a little while. he's open (loosely) from 7-7 every day. he plans to have a fresh juicer up and running in the next week or so, using the fresh produce from his store. i'm excited to give this place a shot and revamp that stretch of atlantic!
  • Ceviche marinated in Clementine juice and a bit of habanero woulb be so good right now!

    Ya no te voy a extrañar! :P :P :P
