Crash! St. Mark + Washington! — Brooklynian

Crash! St. Mark + Washington!

edited November -1 in Prospect Heights
This was Tuesday the 15th around 10pm. Pretty sure the van ran the light and side swiped the Lexus. The man on the ground was ejected from the convertible. If you look close he got knocked out of his Nikes. (Also holes in socks) Almost ruined several sushi dinners at Gen.

I will admit response time was rather quick. Maybe 4 minutes but it was actually the Narcs who showed up first. (Hmmmm...)

Not the first time this has happened this summer on this corner. Washington Ave. down closer to Atlantic cars often get up in the 50mph + range. Bikers be careful!

  • Yea I saw the after math, this happened right in front of my apartment, was a pretty violent crash.
  • There was another less severe one outside of C-town this weekend.
  • Washington and Atlantic is a really dangerous intersection. Cars fly down both streets trying to catch lights. I've see a couple very close calls. And there was a very bad/fatal accident last summer/fall where a dump truck crushed a car. Several times I've been on the sidewalk or median and been scared from a car swerving. Pedestrians and bikers beware of Washington around this area.

solid warning wrapped in a post with zero thought or concern for someone who might be seriously injured - it's almost as if you were reporting on some kind of fake TV crash - show some compassion -- holes in socks? ruined sushi dinners?

    how old are you?

  • I really hope that guy is ok. Is it me or do people drive like idiots around here. Even in Manhattan you're fairly safe in the crosswalks but here no one respects them. When I step out into the crosswalks here people speed up to cut me off. There's a certain degree of lawlessness here that really pisses me off. Cops don't seem to give much of a shit about the 60 mph traffic flying up and down Washington. I don't think there's much of a police presence here at all.

And while we're on the topic of Washington I'll take a moment to bitch about how long it takes for the light to change to cross over Washington! That's gotta be the longest fucking light in the city!
  • Reminds me of when i got hit by a car in March, broke several ribs and the gorgeous ex took care of me
  • my friend was stopped at a light on her bike on washington ave & just as the light started to change - before she took her feet off the ground - a car hit her from behind, knocked her to the ground, and then back-up in order to speed away.

i have seen so many accidents on the corners of washington and sterling as well as washington & st.johns. cars&cars//cars&bikes//cars&people. the cars drive WAY to fast, do way illegal things, and they double park forever. no one cares. it sucks.
  • How about bikers running red lights, riding opposite ways and not having any regards for the safety of pedestrians??

    EHHHHhhhhh, pedestrians are pussys....
  • Watchu, you don´t love me anymore??
    HAHHAHAHA
    Miss you!
  • I love ya, even if you're crazy, get drunk, yell at people, and then LEAVE ME to deal with them! ARgh, you are one crazy mofo....

You should ask for a speed bump. I live on Park Pl, and it has made a difference as far as the drivers slowing down.
  • and a median like vandy!!

Can't do that. The Fire trucks need to shoot up and down Washington Ave.
Talked about getting one for St.John's Pl, but Firetrucks need to race down that too.

    :(
  • there are other traffic calming measures that would help that would not impede emergency vehicles. definitely needed - washington is insane. i got hit by a car on my bike around washington & st johns a while back. the woman tried desperately to drive away, flying down lincoln and underhill at like 60 mph while i followed her. i eventually caught up to her at a red light and had a lovely conversation with her.. heh.
