We may see Duffy's Sis down there.
Did I miss anyone? -
I will be a late arrival if I go. But an eager one!
-
I may not be going to the Island this weekend after all (weather supossed to be bad...sob). So, I may end up joining you after all.

I don't want your LI plans to be ruined, but that would be very lovely if you got to come with us! -

I do.
Come! -
i'll be out there, weather-permitting, on the beach. i'll look for you guys. i bike out every weekend, sometimes twice. disembark around 12 or 1230 from GAP and go via bedford ave bike path. pitch camp with portable sangria at shoreline, directly perpendicular to concession stand at the gay/topless end. if anyone is heading out around that time and wants company, pm me.
-
Guess it's a good thing we didn't ride today. (Aside from the fact that I wasn't even coherent at 10am).
WYW are you in tomorrow? -
Think so. 10am, though....um, can I comvince you guys for a wee bit later?
The way I understood it, bike down to Riis (are we going to sit in the sun, on the beach, catchin' rays?) or are we going right to the destination place? -
11am, 12 pm, later... alll works for me as well.
-
Same, I totally wouldn't mind a bit later, myself (I normally get up for work at 10-11am, if it tells you anything about my lazy ass). But I'm excited for this ride, so 10am-noon is fine for me.
I was hoping we might hop off the bikes and at least walk through the sand a bit before heading down to the Wharf. There's a big section of beach behind Fort Tilden (to the right, when you get to the boardward after coming straight down from the bridge) that's undeveloped, and great to walk along. -
Count me in. I need all the excercise I can get
-
Ok, since none of us are early birds, let's just do noon.
I definitely want to sit on the beach for awhile. The waves there are great and I enjoy being pelted by them. -
Bring Deet. Once you cross the Gil Hodges you'll run into biting flies by the bushes/shrubs along the road. Esspecially by the Brazillian food truck at the exit. Happy Trails.

See you at the GAP at noon.

When: Sunday, August 3rd
Where to: Riis Beach and possibly Rockaway Beach
Leaving from: Grand Army Plaza
Meeting at: 12 noon (apply some sunscreen!)
Distance round trip: ~30 miles
The route:

Who's down?
Non-bike people are welcome to meet us down there! I'm not sure about that route though. Sounds like the A train and then a shuttle bus to the beach? -
Just so there is no confusion for newbies who haven't met us yet - this time we'll be meeting under the arch of GAP, not the park entrance.
See you soon! -
cool. noon works better for us. see you all then. i'm going to wear my modest bike shorts...be warned though, they are the gateway to spandex!!
-
Cool, under the arch it is. My girlfriend might be coming along as well, but she's got this big ole heavy beach cruiser that's not exactly engineered for distance, so if she does come, she might drop out when we reach the Coney Island area and head back home. I'm going the distance, though.
-
See you guys soon! I'll be riding...gasp!...a regular size bike. No folder this time.
-
I....had a late night last night. 12.30 ok??? Please? I really need to burn all the toxins I ingested....
-
I don't know if anyone else is reading this thread just before we head out, but I'll let everyone know you're wanting 12:30.
-
I read it. I'll be there at 12.15 hoping for WYW to show up a little earlier...
-
How was it?
I'm bummed I missed out. Been on vacation and looks like you've been on a couple of good rides. Hopefully I can join you on the next one. -
That was fun!
33.5 miles
avg speed ~10 mph
great day for the beach, and we all got to learn a thing or two about new trends in swimwear!! where next?!? -
oh, and for anyone counting, that's approx:
1273 calories
or 22.3 chicken rings
or 70 calories for every inch of the (questionably authentic) man-organ that WYW spotted.
Um, that also means that Christina's calorie intake for the day is _negative_ 773 calories! yikes! Have an extra shot of maple syrup tonight! -
I just did actually.
But man, 22 chicken rings! I missed out!!!!
I say loop around Manhattan next. Plenty of places to go there, and plenty of subway trains to take home for the slackers in case we ever get any. -
My body? Wants to kill me right now.
-
ME TOO.
As well as my sun-ripened, wind-burned skin.
But it was fun. Glad you all didn't panic too much when I led you to the Wharf. "No, really, there's a restaurant down this creep alley and behind the gas station..." -
Although I feel like I'm still sitting on a bike I don't hurt at all (at least not from this ride - the damage was done earlier) and I didn't even think that this trip was too exhausting. Wow, I should send this quote to my parents, they would drop dead if they found out that I would ever say something like that. Then again, maybe I shouldn't send it...
