any place to buy one? I need to get one and have zero intention of going to a big box store or manhattan, and can't order online cause I need it asap.

thoughts?

  • If it's not too late go to Tarzian's kitchen store on the corner of 2nd and 7th. Otherwise the kitchen supply store on Atlantic next to Sahadi's.
  • thanks! I'm flying out to ecuador in about a week and was going to check the hardware store, first, but I didn't realize there was a kitchen store in PS. is there also a good key copy place in PS?
  • Union Market might have them.
  • 500 2nd Street. Right down the block from Tarzian's. Unless you're getting a Multi-Lock copy. Then I'd go to 5th Ave Key Shop on 9th Street between 5th & 4th Ave's.
  • yay, thanks everyone for all the ideas.
  • Pinchik maybe for both.
  • Second the Pinchik advice. They seem to have everything. Has anyone else been down to the plumbing undercroft?
  • I bet that you could get an oven thermometer (although not a great one) at Met - they usually have kitchen odds and ends hanging from the shelves well about eye level, even if you're fairly tall. Look above the dairy in the last aisle.

Keys? I just get mine made at the shoe repair shop kitty-corner from the B/Q entrance on the PH side of Flatbush... the one with the black and yellow awning, I think.
  • I'm trying to find a good quality one - they have this outdoor wood burning oven and we need to be able to judge temperatures at different spots in the oven accurately (ahh, rural 3rd world living) so we may need one that can withstand high heat, etc.
  • Yeah, the store on 7th is the place to go, in that case. Just be prepared for the cold, sweaty grip of claustrophobia.
  • I'm suffering more from agoraphobia (is that the right word? giant crowds of people are freaking me out) so I'll probs be fine. thanks for the warning, though!
  • If it's like a bimetallic coil-based thingy that you stick into meat, you can borrow mine -- probably won't be needing it the next couple of months.
  • I think they actually kinda need one permanently, but thank you!!
