I was wondering how long it would take before someone chimed in with this fascinating, highly original point.

I think it's time to retire it. No one has a monopoly on what it means to live in Brooklyn, especially those who invoke it to comment on situations they were not involved in.

    F*ckin A Laura. Amen!

There was a pretty violent fight around 9pm on Lincoln, in the middle of the street, right near Underhill. About half a dozen participants and maybe 20 onlookers. Two guys got hit in the head with a baseball bat, and one girl nearly stabbed another one... lots of punching involved as well, and glass bottles being tossed at people. By far the craziest sh#% I've seen in this neighborhood. Still blood on the sidewalk on the corner there.

By the time the cops and amby came (10-15 minutes) everyone had long dispersed.

    MOD NOTE:
    no name calling please, sneaky.
  • I wasn't around yesterday afternoon/early evening, but it doesn't seem that unreasonable to me to have a loud party on a Saturday night and end it before midnight.
  • sad to say thats just something you HAVE to deal with moving into the "hood" calling 311 only does so much, the people arent going to move out. and they will just take their noise outside and obstruct the sidewalks and be even more of a nuisance

    :(

but its like the ppl who move to brooklyn and live on flatbush ave then think they have a right to complain about the noise. um HELLO your on flatbush ave !!! its nyc not north dakota
  • eh. on one hand, I can understand a loud party. on the other, a full sound system with a DJ and MC in a backyard is definitely painful. I know the last time washington ave had a street festival there were like 10 competing DJs on the avenue. my living room faces the avenue and it was horribly loud just in my living room, which is top floor. I wanted to scream. listening to my own music or watching tv was not an option I had. so I hauled my laptop into my bedroom, shut the door and listened to my ipod. and I could still feel the bass in my bed. I understand the pain of having your entire apartment assaulted by noise. it feels hostile, not fun. now, thankfully, I have super high quality ear plugs should this happen again. they block out most bass and loud treble, which means I could sleep through something like that (freebies at an electronica festival!). and I have in-ear, noise canceling ear phones so ... bring it, fuckers.
  • The party most definitely was NOT OVER at 12. I heard when it began around 7 or 8 pm, then went out and came home at 2 am. The music was still on full blast. Not sure if they took a break at midnight but at 2 once again it was on. Good thing I was drunk b/c nothing was going to stop me from sleeping.
  • Something LOUD was going on last night from about 12:30-2am that we could hear on Washington and Lincoln Place. It wasn't directly behind us -- because of the way our building's set up, I couldn't tell if it was from across Washington or down toward Classon. Then we heard gunshots very nearby around 3:30am, possibly on our block.

Yesterday was Panamanian Day...not sure if all the parties had anything to do with that, but it seems to me that you can turn the music down from 11 to maybe 7 or 8 after midnight-ish, even on a Saturday night.
  • Saturday night+August+Party+NYC+Loud=Normal

I agree with you .... to a point. But come on, there's no way a sound system with huge pro speakers loud enough to rattle the windows and floors of half a block or more is not "normal." A little bit of chatter, or some music in the middle of the day = fine. This is well beyond that.
  • I did not call anyone by their name!
  • i wasn't home on saturday night for the loudness thankfully, but in general, all during the summer, the thumping bass that emanates from the cars parked in front of 349-359 is super annoying. i usually just try to blast my a.c. and run my fan for some white noise to cover it up, but windows still pulse from the vibrations. annoying. on a somewhat related note - whats up with the ice cream truck coming mad late and blaring its song? it just seems off that ice cream man comes at like 11pm. right?

call 311. regularly. until the Po arrive to investigate. don't lodge your complaint anonymously, or they probably won't bother coming (they won't reveal your identity to those responsible for the noise, so don't worry about that).

late night icecream truck and/or dead-of-winter icecream truck typically = dealer.
