is that what you get at veg palate? I've had the fried chicken and that place by the west fourth street courts (next to the belgian beer bar where I usually cure my vegetarian dinner failure with a brat and/or fries) and it's probably the best faux meat I've ever eaten that isn't the morningstar farms sausage patties.
Like sex on a Tuesday. Awesome when you least expect it.
Red Bamboo is pretty friggin ridiculous, although nothing beats the seitan at Blossom in Chelsea to me.
My wife and I learned how to make our own seitan last year. While it both tastes amazing and offers you a lot more versatility when you make your own, my lord, what a pain in the ass seitan is to make. You're basically making a dough and kneading the living hell out of it for an hour, then boiling it for two more hours. Wow.
yick! but I have yet to have an awesome seitan dish but have major addiction to tofu. it's very tragic. someone, I'm sure, will tell me where to have something that will make me happy. but I have to say, my comfort foods tend toward the latin and then ... I just want soon doo bu (I can live with or without the seafood addition - just spicy broth with silken tofu is amazing. oh, and we can't forget the egg). -

what would your reaction be if i told you we've got a pretty mean recipe for seitan picadillo?
-
as long as you leave out the raisins, I'm in.

OK, I was passing this place today and asked one of the workers whether I could peek around. He let me grab one of the delivery menus! So here it is, freshly scanned. Your sneak preview of the menu for this not-yet-open restaurant!

Now don't ever say I don't take care of my vegetarian brothers and sisters! -
for some reason I want the crispy watercress and soy cheese wontons. minus the mango whatsit.
-
WOW! This menu looks exactly like Wild Ginger's in Soho which is amazing!! I used to order from them when I worked close by....now I can get it delivered at home Yay!!
-
so far, so good. thanks, Carnivore.
alarainadia doesn't like raisins in her picadillo? paging the Cuban police.... -
The menu looks interesting. Does anyone know the scoop about when Tao Palate plans to open?
-
Same owners as Wild Ginger in Soho.
-
They also own Wild Ginger in Williamsburg........
-
Are they open yet?
-
It looked open yesterday.

I ate there last night and it was really good- nice atmosphere. At least for the moment it is BYOB. The orange seitan was especially tasty.
-
My wife and I had some takeout from there tonight. It's quite good for what it is. It reminds me of the Zen Palate that used to be at Union Square, as many here have mentioned. There were several people dining-in when I stopped by at 7-8 PM

We went for lunch yesterday. I had the sweet and sour soy protein, and my wife had an eggplant dish. We had the scallion pancake as a starter, and i had a nice pineapple orange ginger juice to try to fight the cold that has now taken me over.
It doesn't redefine vegan cooking or anything but, if you're one of those that was looking for something along the lines of Zen Palate in this hood, or a more streamlined Vegetarian Palate that's meant for more than take-out, you're not going to be dissapointed. It's solid, tasty stuff. They also did an amazing job with the interior.
The mango salsa on the scallion pancake was especially tasty.
I think it's an incredibly solid addition to this end of the hood. -
We got delivery last night - there were 5 of us. Delivery was fast. Guy on the phone was super nice. Food was delish. We had the udon soup, seaweed salad, stir fried udon with vegetables, citrus soy protein, curry stew, and something that I'm not remembering right now. Food was good and we'll be ordering again.

I tried the pad thai last night and it was pretty bland but the pepper seitan was quite good. Take out was very quick. The place was pretty full for sit down diners. Looks like a good addition to the neighborhood.

does anyone know their delivery area?

First time ordering yesterday. I got two apps: crispy skin tofu and the indian pancake, and the seitan orange as a main.
Everything was good (didn't love the curry sauce for the indian pancake), but I got a really small round container of rice - not at all enough for my main. Is this the normal takeout portion? -
Ate there Friday and it was terrific. Very attentive staff, and the food was delicious and nicely presented. I had the sizzling soy platter, and the lady had the soy cutlets. Both were excellent. The (non-vegan) Thai iced tea was not the best I've ever had, tasted a little like it was made from a powder, but a bad Thai iced tea is still better than none, in my opinion.
Also about mid-way between my lady's place and mine, so a great place to meet before heading out on the town. Glad to have it.
Howdy, Stranger!
