Prospect Heights Community Association??? — Brooklynian

Prospect Heights Community Association???

I just moved to St. John's Place btwn Underhill/Washington, and have quickly realized that this block is in trouble. While surrounded by beautiful, historic, quiet blocks, this block feels like the Twilight Zone: amazingly noisy and inconsiderate neighbors; blasting stereos; bedbugs in the building across the street; some weird little, noisy ATV that cruises around; people driving like idiots...I could go on.

So is there some type of Community Association where we can address these issues?

This neighborhood has so much potential, it's sad to see it ruined by a handful of douchebags.

  • AHAHAHAH welcome to tha hood !
  • I predict much love for this thread.
  • So I guess our only option is to sit around and whine about this place, huh?
  • yeah!! Welcome to BK!! The real Suburb!
  • Welcome to the not-quietest street in the neighborhood.

The individuals of which you speak are "Old Guard", and they will win every time. This has been their home for many years, it will be for many to come, and they will do as they please.

But yes, we all wish they were slightly more respectful of others.

Are you on the corner of St. Johns and Underhill, because it wins for the loudest corner.

There are douche bags out in the country too, not just the city.

I've lived here for 4 years and love it. It is the Twilight Zone! Rod Sterling
    lives in my building.

All the Neighbors I know are great. Blasting Stereos? You should have lived here 2 summers ago. Nightmare! But, It's gotten better. The Beg Bug problem is being fixed, thanks to Green Earth Pest Control. The ATV did suck for about half an hour, on one day only. The summer time is
always loud on St Johns. When school starts up in the fall, things will quiet
    down.

Next weekend is a "meet and greet your neighbors" for the Block. You should come down to the street and try to make some new friends.

    If not...

    DEAL WITH IT. It's Brooklyn!!

    :P
  • Thanks "God I Am,"

You seem to have pigeon-holed me already. I'm not so bad.

FYI, I'm an easy-going guy who's lived in brooklyn for 6 years. I am willing to put up with a certain amount of noise. But we all know that some of the people around here push their luck. I'm just trying to see if there's any sense of community that could be nurtured to lead to a more pleasant place for everyone. I really don't think that's such a crazy idea.

Dont mind them. That block has been an area of discussion on here many many times and usually sparks start flying when discussing it. It has also been "loving" referred to here as "crazy lane"

Community Board 8 has public meetings

And I know there are some block associations but not sure if your block has one you can use the search feature to find some old posts on them.

    FTFY
  • The optimism here is truly inspiring.
  • This post reminds me of the one from that woman who moved in above Mooney's and complained about the noise. I'm curious, pbillustration, did you check that block out before you moved in? But you really have nothing to worry about, I'm sure those "douchebags" will be priced out of PH soon enough.
  • Community Board should really discuss the impact that many of our favorite Bars and restaurants are having on the quality of life of many people that live on Vandy and its proximity, specially, noise, smoke, public display drunkenness(which i am guilty of ), coke dealing and crime--
What does anyone else think? Any comments from the tenants who live above and across every single establishment on Vady?

Yeah, I don't get it either... I mean, you would think that pointing out that your new neighborhood was populated with douchebags would be the first step towards positive change, but...

Many of your neighbors, ones that have been here for a long time, see new people, like you, as being the uptight, know-it-all doucebags that the neighborhood could do without. On the other side, some people may very well agree with your sentiment, but you're not doing yourself any favors by acting as if you're the first person that's ever held or voiced these notions.
  • Fuck after 20 something years of living here i am going to be price out by an army of Caseopele´s, who think thet know it all and feel self righteous, great i bet this is going to ba a fun place to live, very diversed and peaceful..

Dude what the hell are you talking about?? Have you hit the sauce this early?
Caseopele is the far from that. And actually an army of caseopele's might bring peace to the middle east. That girl's got a huge heart.
  • hahaha!! Man sarcasm does not work on this baord at all!! no sauce, you??? So the implications she was making is that the douchebags are the loud minorities , whom won´t have the money to live in our quiet Prospect Heights, they will be priced out by peace loving yuppies, who won´t make a noise, who will say, hello and good morning to everyone, who will help you with your laundry bag , with your groceries, come on mamacita, what are you on??
Where is her post anyways?? erased? I am not trying to start shit here! Are you?

Couldn't have said it better than that Mamcita - Caseo is a great person
Plus if you have a swarm of cats attack you as you stumble home one night don't blame us. ;)

I this she was being sarcastic too sneaky. hence the quotes on Douchbags.

Ok everyone let's all grab some coffee and start all over.
  • Anyhow, i was actually trying to steer this tread more towards Vandy, if you bother to read the post earlier on!
Ok , Sorry Caseo, you have a big sweet heart, i hope your block chages for the best !! From crazy lane to love lane, too bad there is one named love lane already!

The partner and I are not big bar people, so the times that we're out late on Vanderbilt are few and far. This weekend, however, we were out past midnight [!] down at Beast. Vanderbilt is one jumping street! Lots of pedestrians, lots of people arriving in taxis and black cars. Lots of activity.

We noticed that Beast has a happy hour from 12 to 1 am. I had no idea. Is this a normal thing for Vanderbilt bars? Do you think that's to attract people who've been out in Manhattan earlier, so that they'll come in and have a few before they stumble home to Park Place (or wherever)? Or, probably more accurate: attract people who are on their way to Manhattan to stop by for a few?

Dude, my post was sarcastic! I was trying to follow the rules and not call pbillustration any names. NY is being overrun by people who move here and instead of adapting to their neighborhoods they demand the neighborhods change to suit them. Like I said, the OP reminded me of the post from that woman who moved in above Mooney's and then complained about the noise. It's a freaking bar, not a library. Some people would really do better living in a gated community somewhere.

Mama, I'm sorry I didn't get to see you Saturday! I was laying down in the basement, still haven't quite recovered from my stomach flu. You're a doll and I miss you!

Stacey, my kitties may swarm at times but they only attack if you try to eat tuna around them. It's dangerous, I tell you. Little kitty paws snatching tuna off your fork! Oh, and never try to eat a cannoli around the kitten Betsy, she will stand on her hind legs and grab your hand like a monkey.

Haha, I grew up near Love Lane. I love my block, I can't imagine living anywhere else. And I wouldn't dream of demanding that my neighbors who've lived here way longer than me change a thing. My neighborhood reminds me of the Brooklyn I grew up in, not the sterile bland Brooklyn some people are lusting after. Ick!
